Ok this is a stupid question, but why did Steam try to download the game after I used the key , when it's not gonna be released for more than a month?
For a second there I thought: Holy shit, I'm gonna play the game NOW!!
And then really kicked me in the balls.

That happens on occasion for Steam when the game is finished and available but still held back via the server.
(Depends on how much info you got, if there's a full file size indicator it's likely this but if it's just a install message it often hints at a preload.)
