So if i buy AH we can merge them both together to make Arma2 Combined Operations?

Combined Ops was a bundle of 2 separate games installed separately Wink

well that makes no sense then in the "adding them together" part from earlier posts....?

surely it would of made a seperate install and no wonder it worked as it was a new game standalone in its own right with its own key for use lol...

need more info from NoLiMiTSoLDieR on wether he just dragged all the pbo's etc into arma2 from arrowhead and the sorts..

Either way I dont get if arrowhead is standalone why would you need to have arma2 installed, if so this makes arrowhead standalone in the sense it just has its own shortcut to run the mod via Arma2 base pack..

This to me would seem a sneaky way ( if it works ) for the publisher to make people think you can not just add it "pirated" to the base game..

Ill await more info..

Lets clear this up Smile
First off I tested it with the ISO of Operation arrowhead, I dont think this will be different with the original version.
its was pretty simple to set-up all I had to do is use a new shortcut for them to combine.
You dont even need to have the games in the same directory and/or partition.
Found this on the BI forums posted by a DEV, take a look here : http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=101214
You only need _runA2CO_nonSteamOA then your good to go.

Aight so here is how I tested it.
I already had Arrowhead installed on a different partition Arma2 I got on N:\, Arrowhead on O:\
Thought it wouldnt work like this but it did.
If you take a close look at the shortcut you'd notice that it reads the location of both A2, AO, through the register and combines them using a -mod expansion switch.
You can also still run the games seperatly, if you wanna bash free users Laughing

Here a shot of the game running to prove its running combined.

Now, last but least will multiplayer work?
Im pretty sure it will work like this, when you go to the MP browser, all servers show up as connectable (combined ops)
However when I try to join them its says I got a BAD CD-KEY, which makes sense cuz i tested it with a fake serial for AO Smile
* also I think you dont need to have ARMA2 original to play combined online.

Way back I found some bug to play Resistance online with a pirated copy aswell, but OFP was legit though.

I'm definitly sold will get me A.O a.s.a.p.
Now how is the performance compared to arma2? on the multiplayer part that is.

ARMA 2 Technical Problems Fixed!
We’ve rolled out a patch today that fixes the FADE issues many of our users have been experiencing over the weekend. This issue occurred when the way we package games interfered with Arma’s own anti-piracy system because the GMG version of Arma 2 modified the game files. You can patch the game now using Capsule, and if you experience any further problems with Arma or any of our titles please don’t hesitate to post a ticket.

The patch filesize should be just 1.6 MB and then (maybe) everything will be fine

Some noobs need to stop spreading disinformation on this subject. Rolling Eyes

Look there's nothing to clear up.If you install Arma II then install OA,OA installs into the Arma II folder as an expansion and its all accessed through the new exe. There is no need to drag any PBOs or anything like that.As far as patches are concerned, they fix tons of things and are always a work in progress.Go follow the Arma II wiki page for change logs on those. There are also constant beta patches that are released pretty often.

As far as the free version is concerned well that's another ballgame,I can't comment on that. Why get a half ass version anyway.

I was reading if one buys operation arrowhead on steam it will be able to use any valid arma2 install on you're pc and utilize the files there in running a combined forces shortcut..

is this true, if so ill go buy OA on steam right now... otherwise its an additional £10 again just to rebuy arma2 Very Happy when already got that free eh...

edit: found out you can, best way is to use a launcher or alter the batch file to point to the arma2 from GMG folder..

I'm going to buy OA but i was thinking of downloading it, and purchasing a key from the web.

Is this too risky or are there reliable gamekey sellers out there?

Almost the same with USD. Individual price $59.96. Package Price $59.99 woooooh!

I think the reason though is that ARMA Gold and CWA are part of the package but not available on steam (yet?) but don't have prices so they just show as N/A. They'll probably throw on another $10 or $15 I bet to make it look like a better deal

This little blurb at the bottom could be good for some of you though.

If any of you guys have a server running still I'm interested to give this a whirl whilst waiting for the beta of bf3 to release Smile

I noticed there are like 10 packs included in the X version released the other day.

Which isos should I be grabbing to try this to see if its worth my time / money...

I assume even via tunngle etc this is not playable online without a valid key?

Yup it has FADE. Tutorials and stuff are working fine but as soon as you start a campaign the screen gets blurry and something is wrong with the shooting mechanics.

Hey, we're old-school people, we grew up with (good!) scene releases.
