Every game is pretty much shit these days, even you love games? There is like couple games per year which are good enough to play them through. Games are just getting more shittier than ever in graphics department. Not to mention dumped down console derp experience. Also everything gets fucking delayed all the time.

Games that i usually finish are FPS games, since i really dont expect anything from them, nice time killers. These days RPG (haha RPG´s?) are fucking unbeliavable "something awesome needs to happen when you press a button". RTS games can go to hell, i havent never liked them. Driving games are shit aswell these days (Cars looks promising Smile).

Not to mention also that with these days uber shiny PC components, all that we get is graphics from 1999 (which doesnt even run properly sometimes). I feel that i bought my PC for playing benchmarks Cool Face. Engines like Frostbite 2 are very promising tho, i hope they start using that more (so we can get proper games to PC).

God damn "Next-Gen" consoles should come already, maybe there is hope left for us PC gamers. Maybe then, just maybe we will get proper games on PC. I will fucking play with controller if its needed, as long games are looking how they should on PC. Tho even next gen consoles wont fix the "derp" in games.

Im having more fun on my shit minilaptop playing games like:

Jagged Alliance 2
Fallout 1&2
Baldurs Gate series
Snes emulator!
etc...

Old games are just so fucking good Very Happy

Atleast im happy that Diablo III will come early next year, that game will keep me busy for long time i hope. Too bad i need to go fucking army at January 2012.

Your thoughts? Very Happy

/rage off Smile

yes, but this only happens with AAA titles, on the other hand there are tons of indie developers that make great challenging games, like the one on your avatar, and the binding of isaac.

i feel the same about the hardware, i cant wait until GuildWars2 comes out, or BF3 is released on steam without requiring origin spyware (just hoping) to buy 2 more screens and get a nvidia surround setup.

Havent completed a game since Mass Effect 2, I think..and honestly games like CoD and stuff hardly count anymore they take the time of a long movie :/

As you say, hopefully Diablo III will be great. Diablo II certainly was a timesink for me Smile

How long are you in the army for? We still have the draft in Denmark but at the moment enough people volunteer so its basically meaningless and I drew a high enough number to avoid getting in anyway Razz

Not sure if it's the new games or my interested in them, but I share the sentiment. Not much holds my interest nowadays, besides the indie games, which often are refreshing and original. Also I always liked simulator games, so I'll still play the new ones that come out, you know, the ones that everyone makes fun of around here.

I'm in it mostly for STALKER, Divinity and Risen type games.
A couple of AAA's also, like TES, Fallout and BF3.

Other than that... meh.

well...the reason is money!

creators going with the same stuff and sometimes run too fast and even do not complete products and sell them.

in the past creators were creative with new idea's , the creativity was the lead, but today...need for speed 100, fifa107 etc.
it works for them=no need to work harder and to invent the wheel again.

btw i like nfs and fifa lol..it was just example.

Don't login much, just lurk but I had to login just to comment in this thread.

I agree 100% it seems that PC games these days are nothing like they used to be.

Games like Masters of Orion just don't exist in the modern world of conslidation.

Duex Ex 3 was an extreme let down, it was meh for a DX game which was sad.

Even BF 3 seemed to miss the mark, maybe its just that memories of older games seem better than what it was back in the day but I gotta say I remember having alot more fun playing D2 than any of the junk out these days.

Question is, was it different back then? How many games in a year were good?

As for graphics, especially in fps games, they are going in a very wrong direction. We have a tech, engines are great, but the art style they choose is down right disgusting in many games. I still play games like Q3A or Quake Live, Team Fortress 2, etc. and still fancy graphics in those games, even though they are old. I actually prefer this old graphics to games like Battlefield and others. It's far easier to see and spot enemies. I think it also comes to how the engine runs. Developers, especially of fps games, should not only try to improve the visuals, but more importantly make sure that the game runs smooth, there's no screen tearing etc.

And as for a gameplay of fps games I gotta say I'm starting to hate all these military shooters. I say it's time to bring back some good old scifi shooters where you need quick aim, fast reflexes, superb movement skills, map awareness, and zero unlocks. Bring back Quake or Unreal...alas as long as fps are on consoles with derpads it's not going to happen.

The problem nowadays is that most games are dumb down for the large audience. As before like ten years ago the games where deeper and some had a steep learning curve. Because of this game like this would not bring a big profit.

When a high video card cost more than a gd console with fewer games available for the PC scew it no upgrades here
My 295GTX still cuts the mustard on my 30' HP

Pff, it's just nostalgia. It's easy to remember good games from the "good ol days" and forget all the shit that came along with them.

Good games are being released nowadays as well as shit games, why do people believe it was different in the past?

The "oh it's nostalgia" line is the biggest load of horseshit shovelled down our throats since "Don't complain if you can't do better" -- Fuck anyone who tries to feed us that, children who weren't even born when DOS and the SNES/Megadrive were doing the rounds. Why do people believe it was different? Umm, here's a kicker... you might want to sit down for this; it WAS different. The ratio of good to crap far exceeded today's piece of shit market.

"Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 sold more copies than Doom, Doom 2, Doom expansions, Doom 3, Quake and Quake 2 combined... that obviously means it's a better game than all of them!! Maths proves it!! Noob!"

That hardly makes you a neutral observer sabin, and certainly isn't a proof. Since you gamed (and I) for so long, you have seen it all, and done it all. It's impossible to expect to get the same level of experience you used to back in the day. There is only so many things you can do with a FPS or RPG game.

Having said that....yes, the games have been dumbed down for the majority. Back then the geeks were the only one with a PC, now anyone with 500 bux can be a PC gamer.
On the other side, if you ask someone that's relatively new to the PC game scene they will tell you its just fine. The games look great, play great, and each one is new and exciting. It's all matter of perspective.

But seriously why not pick a year and start listing good games that came out that year and all the other games that came out that year(should be just a number of released titles minus the number of good games) and do the same for the next year, etc, etc till we get to 2010

edit for sabins edit: never claimed sales equaled quality

There are some interesting exceptions (indie gaming industry and/or some rare gems such as TW2/DE:HR), but generally the quality of games is indeed declining as much as its audience.

Hardcore games are a thing of the past, everything is more accessible now and perfectly suitable to the mass of casual derps, but we know that, and we've got to deal with it.

You either adapt or you have to move on and find another hobby, there's nothing we can do to change the actual situation. Wink

Of course it is, I'm continually amazed by the number of kids these days, whose first experience with an FPS was fucking Halo, spouting off some bullshit about how gaming is "better these days than it ever was, lololol, noob!! nostalgia!! lololol" I guarantee each and every single person who says "nostalgia, lolololol" is a fucking scummy graphics whore who WILL mention how much better graphics are inn Castlevania on the PS3 compared to the REAL Castlevania back on the SNES.

It doesn't matter that the game is infinitely worse, it just "lux betta, noob!! lolololol!"

A reasonable conversation with someone who blames nostalgia as the reason why gamers are pissed at the declining quality of their hobby? No thanks. Incidentally; What whole picture? Graphics are better these days so therefore old game love = nostalgia. Right? Rolling Eyes
