I went to some shops earlier today , and no luck..optiarcs and LGs everywhere. I can probably order it or look some more , but Im not in a hurry. I even decided to burn Forza 4 just to test it , playing it for over an hour now..no problems so far. I will let you know if something happens..btw , game is really nice.
EDIT: Also , Im playing it straight from the disc..to try and force that error if it's possible.

If I was to go out and buy a brand new 360 s in the UK what are the chances of me getting a drive that cannot be flashed?
I'm fed up of waiting for firmware for my 2006 hitachi that's already had the rrod and sounds like a hoover

keep us updated, i dont give a fuck about live so if its only a ban thats the problem then i'll just carry on with the truncating method. no point paying out for a new burner until (or if) these checks happen and actually stop the games working.

There's been no sign so far and no updates on the site since august. I suspect there will be another release but who knows.
Regarding Forza 4, the first release i had a tonne of issues with (corrupt disc issues). The complex release hasn't failed once on me and I've pumped about 5 hours of play into it so far
Intel Core i7-4790K 4.00GHz - 32GB Kingston HyperX - Gigabyte Z97X-Gaming 7 - EVGA GTX 980 TI SC 6GB - Asus ROG Swift PG278Q

There is definitely an chance that you would get the Hitatchi drive in the Slim console or the new Liteon which for both isn't an hacked firmware for yet..
so it would be better to try and get an second hand phat jasper or falcon.

I got the iHas124-19 from scan.co.uk and it's the b version, just in case people are looking for a uk source for the drive.

I'm banned from live so couldn't care less about that side of things.
I'm still toying with buying a new flashable dvd writer though. Mines slow in real terms (4x) so might be worth 20 moonbucks or whatever they go for.

So i'm a little confused, what are the difference between the baseline model, baseline model + LightScrib, baseline + smarterase, baseline + lightscrib + smarterase + labeltag?
I guess i should just go buy the baseline if all i need to do it to burn live "safe" games?

All those are additional useless functions that 99% of people never use (lightscribe can print the disc upper side with the disc label, but only in black and white, and it looks quite bad; smarterase erases cd/dvd (makes them unreadable basically) it's a "privacy" feature if you want to make a disc unreadable, tho you'll obtain the same effect by just breaking the disc; labeltag let's you "inscribe" an image/text on the disc surface itself (the side that is read/written by the laser) it looks quite cool, but it's more amusing than useful for any practical purposes imho...
tl;dr: get the baseline, the additional features have nothing to do with the burning quality

yeah if you really must have one of these then to buy anything other than the base model is seriously lame.

Any news on a release for the 2.0 Hitachi firmware yet, or does this new burner firmware make it pretty much redundant?
