This is baiscly a project to mimic Windows functions on the PSP, the video's on the website look pretty fake in my opinion, as someone in the thread above points out the stick is moved in one direction and the mouse moves another way. Also, why the hell would anyone want this? the PSP has an IOS already which does every function needed, so paying for a new one seems a little mental.. the only reason a PSPlinux project exists is so people can be geeky and prove it can be done! I dunno, maybe I just hate M$ too much to see the point.
Opinions on the videos?
Opinions on the idea?

So he will sell a modified Windows on a PSP for 10-20 USD? I doubt it would legal to re sell a modified windows, and under a different name, and also I doubt he would be able to sell at 10-20 usd each when win xp home costs around 99USD.
Edit:And why would he on earth just release 10 seconds clips? Show it booting up, ect, not just a 10 sec grainy clip of what could be a video playing on the PSP.
Edit2
And the BS about linux iis utter stupid, he still can sell the OS, he just has to provide the Source Code. It is not like people will not avoid paying even when it is closed source.
Edit 3
utter fake or a good "hacker" but with a stupid business plan

anyway one of the groups behind the recent dumps of UMDs are working on a loader... So maybe |
Much Much Much Much harder, because Windows isnt open source. "linux ports" are not ports, as the device can quite easily run the OS's code, they just need to work around the bootloader's to get the thing booting and placing information in the right place (eg. creating a VRAM drive for the kernel, or placing it onto memory stick/internal memory). With windows you would need to do the same, but as there is 0 flexability in the "compiled" version (strict hardware needs..) and no open source/cut down version (lets not forget linux is essentially command line with GUI applications landed on top.. where as windows is the exact oposite..) so your pretty screwed in most "porting" respects.
It is feasable that a person could program a Windows clone from scratch, maybe using older versions as a start off point (eg. pre dating the NTKernel versions of windows which have no real text only based layers). Although doing this, would be much easier if the linux kernel was used and a "windows like" X was put on top. MAN! Why do people ask why linux is so great again ? I just dont get them.. lol sorry side tracked for a seccond..
I think my biggest point of all is this:
- Do we need a mouse operated GUI?
- Do we need a file system more complex than the one that exists
- If the answer to this question "would installing a new OS make homebrew any easier?" is no.. is there any point when the same sorts of results can be gained by simjply using homebrew apps themselves?
As for a loader, we can only hope, but I wouldn't put too many hopes on a fully working one for a long time to come. Its like cracking starforce, you might get past one of the hurdles but 3 games later you will hit one 4 times as high ! Every new firmware release will have upgraded security.. This was something people didn't need to worry so much about on older consoles as firmware was in most cases stuck as is from purchase (Except XBox..).. But *fingers crossed*..

I would understand Linux on a DS, as the input towards the DS is a lot simpler than that of a PSP. As the DS would be like a PDA with an extra non touch screen while the PSP would be a PDA with a broken touch sensor :/

I would see the value of this once you have the keyboard... and not some cheap shit like the currently developed "keyboards" I mean a keyboard the size of the PSP's front panel (not just display) that flips down to type and serves to protect the screen when flipped up. This would provide significant enough screen real estate to allow the use of something like Word relatively comfortably, provided that the various functions are bound to keys or buttons on the PSP (IE the 4 buttons are bound to menu selections and the dir. keys are used for selection, with the triggers serving as left and right "mouse buttons", i.e. ok and back. But why the fuck someone who needs this functionality wouldn't just get a micro-laptop instead is beyond me.
Then again, you could get the same functionality with homebrew apps, including a more complex file manager. Why would someone spend $250 on a device with these limitations when that much will comfortably buy a used Dell Axim X5 with a keyboard on ebay, is beyond me... It would kinda make sense if there were people who had heavy gaming needs and light software/application needs, but there really isn't such a group, the closest to it would be college students, and they're more 50/50, so they'd be more attracted to a small laptop or a PDA/keyboard combo, both of which can be used for music and gaming needs (I've been using my X5 for both for about 2 years now), and would serve word processing needs a hell of a lot better than anything a PSP could offer (if only because of the weight disbalance between a heavy PSP and a relatively light keyboard, which would make working without a stand relatively uncomfortable... that kinda throws anything outside of an office/classroom out the window.
Can it be done? Yes.
Considering it's alternatives, should it be done? Not really.
