I agree. If there werent the name "Gothic" included creating unmatched expectations, it would have been a solid 3D-action-RPG with very few bugs, very solid graphics, a good fight- and skill-system, lots of items and upgrades, a standard fantasy story and a rather long playtime.
I enjoyed it ( more than Gothic 3)

ok so played this stand alone addon and i must say WOW ... they finally fixed the game [optimizing the game engine... it runs finally super fast] but this game is way to boring to continue, the story line is ehhm well crappy ... it felts like a hack and slash game then gothic never was , a strange thing is why this game is missing a tutorial level explain the control scheme and other small things .... bleee shift delete

They've changed a few things, for best result "Arcania Addon.exe" should be named Arcania however to be recognized by either GPU vendors specific profile optimizations.
I believe most of this was also present in Arcania after the last update.
(Patch 3 and possibly also patch 4 which removed DRM and added "various bugfixes" as the changelog so vaguely hinted at.)
Looks pretty good with either MLAA or FXAA, unsure if traditional AA works but that would be even better if so.
(FPS is around 55 - 60 at the more demanding areas I've visited so far with FXAA and everything enabled plus small tweaks to the config file.)

@JB Do you have any idea why the game crashes after I choose the difficulty?

The game crashes when the original Arcania saves are present.
Rename or delete C:\Users\[user]\Documents\ArcaniA - Gothic 4 folder
So the question is, does it only affect the cracked version?
I would really like to import my character.

Oh, I remember that was happening with the main game too, if you used a different crack than the one you used to play on those savagames. It's probably a crack issue then, yes. Damn it, I wanted to import my hero...

Thanks. I was having the same crash until I renamed the existing, old 'ArcaniA - Gothic 4' folder. Bummer we can't import our savegame. Thanks for the info.

It seems the mods for the main game work with this one too. It's sad that I can't import my character though. I don't know if I'll play the game now though... I'm expecting a new graphics card quite soon and it'll probably better to play it with that, just like many other games that I have installed.

Am I supposed to start off at level 28? Something to do with the first game?

It starts from the end of Arcania so you are set to a rather high level from the beginning.
