Change the driver cause it's definitely something related in that direction.

not wanting to stir shit or anything and start an argument, but i think i figured out what it is that makes me not like rage very much... and its the same problem i think i had with doom 3...
everything just feels so over-designed... so false and manufactured, even in their attempts to create detroyed, random environments. its all so forced, and design 'just for the sake of it' rather than because it feels real and natural... i mean i walk down a hall and blood is freely running down it.. i see destroyed bridges with no real purpose (architecturally)... layout of buildings in the city seem unnatural, existing only for the sake of the path designed for me (the player) and not because its how a real city would look...
im sure many will disagree, and thats cool... but to me, it all just feels so false and empty to me, and thats whats stopping me from really getting immersed in the game. i never feel like im in a postapocalyptic world... i always feel im on a stage, if that makes sense.
yeah the monster killing is fun, and some of the tech is cool (ie enemies reactions to getting shot) but atmosphere is what makes a really memorable game for me, and rages world just feels too fake.

Well, for me it was extremely short levels, so short in fact that they're used in reverse. I'm glad they didn't mirror the levels like in NFS4. There's no story, just cutscenes. The only attention to detail is in visuals, but gameplay seem to have gotten none. The game is extremely short, empty and predictable. Lost faith in id completely after this.

Ive found why my game is freezing... Freaking game doesnt dump the memory, it was using 2.9 gigs of ram the last time it froze.
Switching to 6 gigs of ram from 3 gives me more play time. From 10 minutes to half an hour.
Spoiler: | Seriously though, I need to fix this 'cause the game is hellova fun. |

try upping it to 8 gigs like i have, and youll get completely uninterrupted gameplay until you get bored and shut the game down yourself.

I've put 6-7 hours into the game and now I kinda want them back. I don't think I'll be finishing it.

i dont know if ill finish it either.... actually with skyrim, batman, saints row, mw3, bf3, serious sam 3... im pretty sure i REALLY wont finish it... theres too much better shit on the horizon.
which is a pity, because the animation, some of the designs and texture work (as low quality as it is) and the combat (especially damage reactions) were pretty damn good.

I hear ya. With BF3 out, and the other games you mention just around the corner, I'm doubting I'll ever finish this game or even W40K: Space Marines. Both are decent games, but time is limited.

Shouldn't even do that since it's 32-bit and only would allocate 1.8 to 2.1 GB at max, unless you mean VRAM.
If so you will need quite a lot of that if you're using custom configs, especially those utilizing 8192 or even the somewhat extreme 16384 resolution values.
(If those are used don't remove compression as it'll eat up several GB of memory after a short time in-game.)
EDIT: Without custom configs the game shouldn't use that much memory at all, something is weird there.
(vt_restart might work to force it do dump the data but if there's some odd memory leak it might instead just crash.)

There is no config edits, non at all. And I mean ram, not vram. Game is not dumping the memory, just like you said.
What is "vt_restart"?

I can confirm that the game can address more than 2GB of Ram. I encountered a memory leak yesterday, the Windows task manager said that Rage used ~2.5 GB of Ram at the time it froze.
No custom config BTW.

Yeah it's limited to 9999, often that's enough but if you buy a large amount of items after saving up to max it can run out before you've got everything.
(Components for example or a lot of the more rare custom ammunition like the fat mom upgrade ammo to the pistol, I relied on that one a lot.)
