Why not? It was offered and my mum said: the more you know the better! So besides English I learned German...

I have been to former Yugoslavia twice when I was 11 and 12 (so 30 years ago). They really disliked Germans back then, but German was the most common foreign language they spoke there. As Dutch people we only had to say we were Dutch and the people became friendly again.

Pretty much EVERY country hates german tourists. Experienced the same in several countries including Hungary, Czech Republic, Italy etc..and as soon as they found out we were Danish their attitude changed completely.
