Although I used to like ER, before it started repeating itself ad infinitum, I don't think it's the reason why I actually enjoyed playing this. It's more of a cross between the sims than Theme Hospital and it's a lot better than it initially appears, and despite lacking depth and realism it's still a lot of fun.
It's nothing great, or worth buying, but it's worth a play. It's very user friendly and mostly intuitive. Don't be put off, it's not bad at all.

every time I go to new game I get an external exception c000001d. Anyone know how to fix this.

Gee whiz, that game is certainly short. When you're done with the handful of days/missions, it's over. No free run mode, no building your own hospital, nothing. Bleh... :/
