In an ideal situation the dev studio would get a huge budget injection for the sequel. Won't happen though.
OT: is there any news about Thief 4?

See fuckers ? You don't need elfs and dwarfs in some mmorpg shit to make money. Single-player is ALIVE !! Not even piracy can hurt you when the game is good enough ...

I *loved* DXHR.. and that's why I haven't played TML yet; I'm halfway through my 2nd DXHR run. Once I hit the boat to Panchea, I'll load up TML as it was meant to be, then finish the main game again.

I loved it too, if not for the 180 of Darrow, which seemed very forced. Fuck it, I'm going to replay the game again, like you, and play TML according to the timeline! Won't be easy to skip it for now, but it does make more sense.
On another note, I'm very glad the game sold well, I hope they expand on the formula, and make the gameplay a bit deeper (adding more active augments - I think 4 is a bit shy - but fits perfectly on a controller ).
Either way, after some time to deliberate, HR is probably GOTY for me, nothing coming out can change that anymore really. P2 and TW2 are incredibly close though.

Any news on the last patch (v1.3.643.1, I think) being released/cracked?

That brings my appreciation for them up to a new level. Admitting they fucked up and fully taking the blame rather than blaming the third party; talk about atypical for today's developers

They seem like a dedicated, honest and, above all, talented bunch. Hell, just the fact that there were pictures of the development studio throughout the end credits shows that they took real pride in their product and had no problem putting their faces on it.
Unfortunately though, the saying "nice guys finish last" seems to apply to game development studies in a big way. I just can't see these guys being allowed to continue with proper fan service in the years to come, as it will not optimize profits in the eyes of stock owners. A shame really, since the main reason for DX:HR doing great saleswise is the quality of the product. New gamers didn't know Deus Ex, and those who had played the original thought the franchise was long dead. If it weren't for the hype surrounding the "demo" here on the hump, I wouldn't have bought it myself.
Hope for the best, expect the worst. History has not been kind to the more talented game studios.

Why wouldn't they be allowed to continue doing what they're doing?

I have fallen, damnit, I have fallen ... I simply couldn't wait any longer with my HR progress, so I instead finished TML since yesterday. I felt like a drug addict getting his fix.
The Missing Link was every bit as good as HR, save for the fact, that it didn't have any moral/philosophical backbone, like HR had. Sure Hydras were intriguing, but I felt there was a lot more to be said about the subject. Overall, I was very happy with the DLC, lasted me a good 9-10 hours. Worth the price, if you ask me, even though I didn't buy it - but I will now.
Right now, I'd sell several of you in to slavery just to play the next installment

Also, it was a nice touch giving us the choice of how to handle the boss, because now I actually felt good about making the decision of brutally murdering him by getting up close to him with sneaking, then firing god damned rockets in his face! I imagined watching closely, how he melts for his crimes.

I'm replaying DE:HR and this time it's even better for some weird reason. It has moved up to contend with GOTY for me right beside Portal 2. We'll see what happens when Skyrim arrives.

Quote: | What are the different challenges of writing for the Missing Link DLC instead of the full game?
Away from Deus Ex I’ve worked on some other DLC as well; I worked on Pigsy’s Perfect 10 which was an add-on for Enslaved: Odyssey to the West. Working on that what we realised was that generally with a game you have a discreet beginning, middle, end experience and to build on story DLC you have to find a place where you can connect it. With the Enslaved stuff, what we did is we took a character who was playing a supporting role in the original game and we spun out an entire storyline out for him. So it’s kind of a side story, almost a prequel because the DLC ends with the characters introduction into the storyline of the main game, so it connects that way.
With the Missing Link we created a very discreet, compact narrative for our hero Adam Jensen and when we were approached and asked to do DLC we had to work quite hard to find somewhere we could fit it. And we realised that we had this point in the game where the character is off the grid and this is the perfect opportunity for us to put in almost a missing episode of the story.
It’s interesting with DLC because you want to produce a dynamic, interactive, interesting and ultimately rewarding experience for the player. But you have to do it in such a way that it doesn’t break the story that you’ve already created for the source material. I guess that’s the unique challenge of it, to find a way to make a story that parallels what you’ve got without overwriting it. |

As a Canadian, Id just like you let you know that awards you win in Canada dont mean shit anyways. Its like going down to walmart and buying stickers that say first place and putting them over your shirt. |
