Any patches in the near future judging by the track record? Or should I just play it now?

Not sure mate, other than The Bard's Tale this is the first Snowblind* game on the PC.
*Either developed BY Snowblind, or using the Snowblind engine.

Hmm I see much work for SPCN bein the society for the prevention of cruelty to noobs, whilst I wait for me download.
On the other hand why do peeps waste their lives askin questions which 10 minutes of googlin or testin would answer for them?
I did google that n received a number of inconclusive answers I even tried askin Speaktoit the latest waste of space installed on my fone it gave me the usual "The reason is a bit outside my range of expertise. For now." bullshit
So it seems that we cannot yet direct three year olds in twemty year old bodies to their smartphone when the questions become particularly facile.
did you know the average 3 year old child asks 400 questions a day? That's what my newspaper told me just the other day. I coulda sworn my youngfellas broke a thousand queries per even on a bad day.
I sorta miss it now.
All I get now is variations on the existential grunt, the pitch and timbre change depending on whether I have managed to make Uncharted 3 work properly or pointed out the kitchen is in an even more sordid state than usual.
Where was I? Oh tryin to get on topic. The game has nearly downloaded.
That prick Peter Jackson is regarded as either a saint or a capitalist oppressor around here because of his extreme behaviour since he made those three pretty ordinary movies that this game is attempting to milk.

It feels like this game is capped at 30 fps or something. Are there any config files that can be edited?

Not a bad game. Not great either. Might keep me entertained for a few hours, I'll be surprised if I actually complete it. The combat is fairly fun but the stiff animations and limited moveset suxx.

many here have the slowdown issue (for me too): in general the game is fluid, but sometimes it just becomes very very slow
Tried it yesterday night for 30 minutes until the first...well...arena battle in the first castle, but tell you when ennemies are numerous, CPU is raped hardly, very very bad slowdown then.
BTW, 3D Vision visuals in this game are absolutely amazing, even if Nvidia hasn't given any profile yet. Of course, 3D effects let your game stutter even worse sometimes, but it's still worth to give a try.
Gameplay ? well...I'm not a fan of LoTR, so....

So anyone with an ATI card manage to run this without the stutter? I turned down a couple gfx options and it's better but still unplayable for an action game as the screen freezes for a couple secs now and then when turning around. Supposedly using a pad helps but it doesn't work with my Rumblepad by default and I see no controller settings anywhere. Typical bad console port.

Light stutter after starting a area but it disappears after that once everything has been loaded (Could also be HDD due to some cache method or RAM but I'm uncertain how it works.), I mentioned it somewhat in the first post I made but I believe that if it's down to the GPU it's due to ATI/AMD not having a profile for this game yet.
(11.11 beta2 drivers or what to call those, pretty nice so far for a leaked build and it adds profiles to BioshockInfinite.exe and Sam3.exe plus what 11.10 added, still has light texture corruption in Rage however as with 11.11 beta 1 or what to call that first driver but not as severe anymore.)
EDIT: Oh right I forgot, interior area at the mid-point of the last level's first area saw a greater stutter problem than the other locations, possibly game engine related but I wouldn't know, lighting effect seems to have some involvement in this.
(There's sparks of lighting here and there and it seems timed to that.)
Still I made it through without much of a incident.

Near the end I went through some interiors with lighting effects and sparks. It brought my fps down to single-digit every time the effects appeared.

This is a badly designed game, not of this generation. It'd be a good game five years ago, it's average now. The LotR IP is really being buttraped by budget title attempts. This would make Tolkien turn in his grave.

The SP is kind of fucked it seems. Your companions are always using shitty weapons and armor even if I give them better ones.

I get the horror-stutter on my ATI card, but it's quite smooth on my crappy Alienware m11x with Nvidia 330. So, it's definitely an ATI/driver issue.
I was a moron and got myself a 6990 card - as people have been calling ATI driver issues "a myth".... Apparently I needed another lesson, so I can learn to trust my own instincts.
But at least it's fast |
It's not an ATI issue, it's a multi GPU issue. ATI driver issues ARE a myth in that it's not worse for them than it is for NVIDIA, SLI/CFX issues are not a myth however. They're a problem we'll never get rid of unless NVIDIA and AMD decide to get rid of AFR. |
No, it's not a multi-GPU issue. It had the exact same problem on my 5870.
Yes, it's an ATI OR ATI driver issue.
That's just the way it is.
I have a GTX260 for PhysX - and I test most games on both cards, because most PC games run "ok" on the 260 still. For every game with an Nvidia driver issue, there are 5 games on the ATI - and they tend to be more serious.
If you want to claim that it's a "myth" - that's your business, but it's nothing but your opinion.

The 6990 is as you likely know a Crossfire card (Ca 2x 6950 in terms of speed if I remember correctly.) and with this game lacking a SLI (And Crossfire.) profile and at worst having the game engine somewhat incompatible with either this leads to really bad scaling which causes these micro stuttering issues.
Unless you meant the small stutter at the start of each level before the map is fully loaded.
(I get that too but then it works just fine - other than what I wrote earlier about the mid-part of the last level seeing rather frequent framerate drops unfortunately.)
Still a profile update or the 11.11 Catalyst might take care of that, likely a profile release though as the 11.11 beta drivers I use don't have a profile for this game.
