Hmmmm, am I the only one that doesn't really want a loader yet?
I think it's too early in the system's life to have a loader. The PSP
is a fantastic device, the repurcusions of having a loader to boot games off of a memory card this early would kill the PSP's success.
Maybe it's just me, a well, just a thought.
Cheers.

Trust me, if it had a loader things would balance out, thats why the PS didnt die.. (lets not talk about the dreamcast.. people are still stupid sometimes )..
People would still buy games, people would buy MANY more consoles..
Then again, you could very well be right! We shall see I guess, but I doubt we will see a loader before the european release.. or even before christmas.. and we will CERTAINLY not see a real solution to the digital signing on UMD's anytime soon ! Just temperary work arounds until they update the firmware again!

dont forget that if a loader did come out it would only be for version 1.0 unit's anyway, which rules out a lot of people. Maybe 1.5+ will run homebrew in the future but as it stands they can't now and wont be for a while.

you should at least admit that it is quite possible that there wont be a way around it...

Nopes...
There aint such thing as a "piracy free" console... They will be cracked if the demand is big...

No, the demand has nothing to do with it. Its just the ability to do the things.

eh, it'll happen soone enough, although admittedly it will only be on 1.0 psp's, at first anyway.
Mutantius wrote: | and you know that because? |
So far, they've only been able to run homebrew on the 1.0 PSPs. The loader will likely be run through the same pathways as the homebrew games. Till we can run that on 1.5+ PSPs, I'm afraid the chances of a loader there are slim at best.
On the bright side, the presence of the SNES/GB emulator is encouraging: the thing obviusly needs to read code not part of the exe (the rom) from the card in order to run SNES roms. It's therefore logical enough that PSP games can [theoretically] be run through the same pathways. Once they get a loader that bypasses the image's protection, we'll be set.
OTOH, I'm surprised that there hasn't yet been a hacked 1.0 rom release based on the update Sony released a while back. That's the first thing I would've went for, if I knew assembly from my ass.

Well, all I know a loader through a mod chip could work with 1.51 or 1.5 though the process on implenting a modchip into the unit might turn ugly

damn right... Sony has the inside of it's PSP packed to the millimeter... even if there is space for a smallish mod chip, there isn't space for the fugly soldering you'd be dealing with once the hillbillies get their hands on it.
although, I'm unsure if there is a hardware difference between 1.0 and 1.5 PSP's.

demand has nothing to do with it... it is possible that there is a protection that cannot be beat... and the psp with its latest bios revision may have accomplished that..
there is yet to be a loader that works on 1.5 so really the longer the wait the less likly there will be one..
the only reason why they work with 1.0 was because of a security flaw..
which apparently has been patched since if the flaw was still there then theoretically these loaders would still work

all depends on how they implement bios updates... if they can be hacked to insert not sony-approved code into the system, 1.5+ are hacked until they find a different way to implement the code in a way that would work with all existing PSPs. Granted, it's another hack contest between hackers and devs, but hackers have one great advantage: the devs have to play with ALL existing hardware. The more modified systems they release, the more they push themselves into a corner as far as having to limit their options and/or developing several version. Eventually, Sony will see this as unprofittable, and just lazily swat at hackers once in a while to let game publishers know they're doing "something"... That is to say, if interest in hacked programs hold, there's a high likelihood that efforts will also hold up to produce hacks. This is espectially true with mod chips, due to the fact that there's a large sum of profit involved to the companies that finish first.
A good possibility is a "pass-through" such as the one in place in the Nintendo DS, except one that will disable the PSP's anti-piracy features.
