Very interesting. But the question is how do you know such information?
I was thrown out of college for cheating on the metaphysics exam; I looked into the soul of the boy next to me.

Or what the contract says? They might have bought up the rights to use the SC protection for X amount of years for Y amount of games. I doubt any company would force themself to use a protection method.

GTA3 and VC didn't have any good protection, it's just that the devs put in custom protection like the way Tages work. (not that complex though)

Vice City had some funky random in-game CD checks as I recall, but standard stuff otherwise

GTA 2: safedisc 1
GTA 3: safedisc 2
GTA: VC: securom 4
GTA: SA: ?!(may be securom 7,and i hope it would be)

Almost defently securom 7, as indeed VC uses securom 4 and Max Payne 2 also uses securom.

For me, I don't care if it uses Starforce, as long as mounting the image trick via USB will still work. I found Chaos Theory and SH3 a doddle to backup, simply by using the latest Alcohol to make MDF+MDS images, then mount them. In my case, I removed the internal DVD Drive, and just used the USB housing, so I don't have to bother STARFU**ER etc. Is it as easy to make a mini-image from a Securom or Safedisc protected game? I did try with World Championship Snooker 2005, but the disc was full of read errors (part of the protection). The mini-image for this game was 5000mb long, but DID work. I was unable to make a tiny mini-image, like those on Game*******ld. Maybe it's all about the quality of your DVD Writer. For me personally, I'm not into Pirate software, I just want to be able to make a backup of a game that I've paid for.

It's Securom 7. I'm 100% sure. I'll bet my house on it. Has custom prot by RockStar too, that's pretty tough. Still, SR7 is good news.

If it's SecuRom, can we still play a backup from a mini-image? I bet the latest Alcohol and Daemon are blacklisted again, so we will either have to wait for a new version, or the crackers will have to ensure ALL the CD checks are removed, and in their hurry to be the first with a release, they will probably not bother checking properly.
Jeeps, it will be easier to backup if it uses Starforce, that's if the USB trick hasn't been blocked of course!

If its securom no, mini-image no worky, but you can have a huge clone image mounted tough !!
