Some headphones: AKG K 242 HD - http://stereo-headphones-review.toptenreviews.com/akg-k-242-hd-review.html

Soundcard: ASUS XONAR DX/grinhurt - http://www.asus.com/Multimedia/Audio_Cards/Xonar_DX/

And a mouse: Logitech G500 - http://www.logitech.com/en-us/gaming/mice-keyboard-combos/devices/gaming-mouse-g500

Anyway my mouse started dying a while ago, and now it's over the limit, so I finally ordered what I believe to be a decent mouse.

Also having played Skyrim on xbox I was disappointed how poor the audio quality was on my onboard audio (I know Sad ). While I was shopping for a soundcard I decided to get some new headphones too. I was hoping to get a nice set of speakers for the last few months but I keep waiting to move into a new place and that doesn't seem to be happening soon so I went for the headphones.

Good, bad choice? I already ordered it but I have time to change the order by monday. I tried to get best bang for my buck with decent quality.

Yeah I tried out a cheaper AKG model at a friends place once and I was stunned by the quality.

hijacer do you mean G9x? I looked into that one but it was too expensive for my needs. I just need a decent mouse and I didn't want to buy another 10$ noname one.

that asus looks good but it doesn't have optical in which can be very useful... actually, I still can't believe I got the xfi titanium on ebay for 40$ Surprised brand new and all.

Digital connection might be useful but since I primarily plan on using it on headphones for now, I don't really have much use for it. D2x was twice the price with all the extra crap I won't use.

I don't really know what would be advantage of a digital connection in general? Some device eventually has to transform it into analog and I'm pretty convinced a decent sound card does that well.

Nice price on the xfi. I was looking into it but most people suggested asus over creative labs although I'm pretty sure it's hard to tell the difference.

Got all the equipment and had a day to test it.

Mouse feels good, definitely better than my last one but for my needs there isn't all that much difference. Will see if there's any improvement in my skill once I finish Skyrim and start some BF3 again. I like the rough plastic on the edges, it feels nice.

Soundcard is hard to judge. With my speakers I can't tell much difference between onboard and the new soundcard, but my speakers aren't all that high quality. Some weird brand. With the headphones though it makes a lot of difference, so that makes it worth it. Also, the virtual surround actually works quite well, I was surprised.

Headphones were the most expensive piece of the equipment, and they definitely deserve all the praise. They're self adjusting, meaning you don't have to move any kind of sliders and shit to get them to fit nicely (Even with that I couldn't do it with my older ones), you just put them on and they fit perfectly. They have velvet earpads, which is nice I guess. All in all they're extremely confy to wear. 8 hours straight and I forget I have them on, no pain or anything.

Audio quality is amazing although you can only hear their full potential with a flac that was created from a good source. I found plenty of flac files that still result in a lot of noise. Any mp3 also results in plenty of noise of course, however I don't think it's any worse than with regular headphones. Only here you get used to crisp sounds just to get noise on the next song you play. It kinda varies more from song to song than it does from format to format.

Skyrim sounds great, although I'm certain that games with more ambiance, like dead space will sound amazing.

Overall with both mouse/audio I'm happy, although for the amount of cash I spent there isn't a spectacular difference.
