DXT1 (no alpha) for textures without alpha channel
DXT3 for textures with alpha
mip-maps.. i usually set them to 7, but not above, to retain the sharpness even in the distance.. but it depends on the resolution too.

DXT5 isn't needed, there's very little visual difference from DXT3. I would not suggest not using mip-maps, there will be a lot of aliasing if you dont have any.

My bet is that it's the game loading a different part of the map, but with 3.5gigs of RAM (WinXP here), this really shouldn't be the case. It's not terribly bothersome, but if there were a solution to this, I'd like to know.

That's a bug I am experiencing as well. Here's the thread on the official forum about it.

It only happens outdoors, there's on occasional freeze of 3-5 seconds, but otherwise it's as smooth as butter. Indoor is just fine, no freezes at all.

Was out riding on my regular exploring of the lands, and all of a sudden everything shakes and a dragon swoops down on my ass, burnes my horse to death, takes a good bite out of me, and off it goes, me back to doing a reload.

Loads of little things like that altho less dramatic i guess but still finding quite a bit of random events just running around heh

Omg Smile

The quest system is pretty much shitty at this moment.

Go rescue someone from Northwatch Keep.

Ok, where the fuck is northwatch keep? No location on map, didn't get any from quest provider, it wasn't on the map in the castle and no npc tells me where the fuck it is.

Does the game really force you to use the compass markers and clairvoyance for fucking derps?

Sorry, but the only derp here is you Laughing When you tag a quest on your journal, location appears on your with a GIANT marker .

If not, I reccomend you to go and play Morrowind. I'm sure you won't survive even five hours Surprised Laughing

How about you learn to read? I only complain about markers not showing when there is a specific location stated, and no, it doesn't show when it's selected, only shows on map where I'm supposed to go(pointing an empty space on the map).

And my main complaint was about the game pulling the quest locations out of it's ass.

For example: Find the Legendary Red Eagle sword! Just a small mention about it in a book, and I get a quest which again(by using show on map, or derp-voyance)), points to exact place where I can find this long lost artefact. It's a fucking derp mode that does half the quest for you, without giving a possibility of doing any self research, It's the same with EVERY quest.

Is there any indication which books are read? I can't seem to see one. I'm picking up every book, uinless I remember a title. I don't remember every title though, so it's a bit of double work.

Don't use clearvoyance and don't activate the quest in teh questlog, so you won't be directed to it? Are you being forced to use those with a gun to your head or something?

When it's the only way to complete the quest, yes, I am forced to use this shit.

My point is that quests are dedicated more or less to derps, there is really no place for creativity.

Don't know if this has been posted or not, but is anyone else having a CTD issue when going through that ice cave that's near the beginning level?

I've already tried what few tweaks are available, including the supposed fix for CTD by lowering the sound card settings, which in my case didn't fix this problem.

Could it be?! Shocked
Could they finally got lockpicking right (well, at least much better than oblivions Razz)?

Just struggled quite a bit to open an expert lockpick.
The perks will no doubt make it easier, but I think the base skill is a nice balance between skill levels like Morrowind and open-every-lock-it-doesn't-matter-since-content-is-shit Oblivion.

The lockpicking is the same as Fallout 3. Having the higher skill level in lockpicking and the perks helps. However, if you have a bunch of lockpicks to waste you can get anything open if you really want to. Higher skill level just increases the 'sweet spot'.

There are plenty of typos and grammatical mistakes, though.

On a different note, does anyone know where I can download the game manual from? I remember having the manual for Oblivion, which provided very useful information on the different races and their specific skill bonuses - which is what I'm interested in this time around as well.

Also, is the OST up somewhere?

Steam, always steam for manuals!

Yeah, but it seemed to me that the pick is much weaker and the "sweet spot" is harder to find.
Or it might be related to the floaty mouse input that the game has.

What the fucking atrocious mouse control. Bad first impression. Feels like cheap port.

They go all the way of porting graphics and optimizing the game, but fail at making mouse hardware instead of software controled.

its just not gelling with ur system/mouse i guess, the mouse control here is rather good/smooth and dont feel like its in the game rather an overlay mouse so its all silky and sweet Very Happy

Edit: A pity it doesn't contain the info I was interested in, though.
