1. Is the internet adapter integrated in the xbox or am I going to buy it like for the ps2?
2. Is the free software for playing online good or should I buy xbox live?
I am going to spend the less money as possible
I'm also interested in a modchip. Have been looking at a aladin (the cheap one) chip. I will only need to play backup games from DVD-R. So far it will work with all games right (also DVD9's)?
I have heard somethink about updating games and then you'll have to disable your dash or your modchip will crash is it right and what does this dash mean?

1) The XBOX comes with everything you need to get online, its broadband internet capable out of the box
2) Ive used the free game services thru having a modded xbox and thru the fact that when i buy a game at $50 - $60 a time (yes i do buy em) i dont see why i should have to pay monthly fees to play online. The free services r good for playing with friends. If ur hardcore in online then it might be worth getting xbl
dont bother wasting money on a modchip there's no point you can softmod an xbox for free. It works just the same as a chipped xbox and there's non of that nasty soldering or flimsy non-solder chip crappery

softmoding is not to hard but if you're really new at this just buy a mod-chip
it is best to go with a normal chip where you do require soldering BUT if you're LIKE ME and don't know none of that buy yourself the Xenium SP.ICE solderless chip. takes less then 2 min to install (that is with opening the box) i had sofmoded mine while back and tryed upgrading the hdd (failed miserably, fryed the original drive in process ) he he he so i got smart and bought the solderless chip. works like a charm shoulda bought it a while back

yeah you can't play copied games on xbox live, and xbox live is only $50 for a year, I had it for a while but it's not many games I like to play online with consoles
and if you mod your xbox you can play all games dvd-5 or dvd-9 so if you have a dual layer burner your in luck

Ok it looks very cheap. Have already spend over 1200$ on my ps2 and 400$ on my gamecube.
The softmod on the xbox looks very interesting. I don't care if it is hard to do but it has to work 100% stable with DVD discs. Does it have direct boot? Does the newer games which have autodash damage the chip if you have enabled it or is it just the software mod?

Probably the best place to start is http://www.xbox-scene.com. The tutorials there should tell you all you need to know.
