I lol @ that guy wasting the money on 5 Vertex 3's in Raid 0. I could see two at most, but five is a complete waste of money. Even more so when you consider he probably has 2 SATA III ports at most anyways; So whats the point? |
i'm still thinking he bumped the textures down to high is what i was noticing and maybe low anti-aliasing.

Isn't SSD in raid0 barely noticable? As SSD's themselfs are already some sort of raid setup?

Considering a Vertex 3 will max out SATA III for data that isn't allready compressed - Yeah.
They aren't really 'raid'. It's just that if you have a 120GB SSD (For example), you may have 8 of the actual chips. Each chip alone doesn't have very great read/write rates, but the controller of the drive itself is reading/writing onto all the chips at once.
So yeah, RAID 0 would be useless on a drive like a Vertex 3. The key point being that it allready maxes out SATA III anyways.
It's also worth noting that he's loosing performance over time on the drives since RAID 0 trim support hasn't come out until basically now.
The worst part of all of it is that he probably doesn't even have SATA III ports on his x58 board. (If he does, they are shit Marvell ones that usually underperform) So he has purchased a bunch of SATA III SSD's and is only getting 50% of the performance anyways. Should have just saved the money and bought some last-gen SSD's that maxed out SATA II just fine.

well, i haven't applied any gfwl updates since i started playing. i don't get it, i can see my goddamn save files in steam's remote folder, yet they all appear as empty in-game :'(

strange... i don't think it's an optional update anyway, i think you have to install it for GFWL to work at all signed in, a few people said the game just randomly quit to apply the update.
