None.
Different story is if u play or have played HoN or Dota1 .
Im playin LoL form its very first day, and when started with HoN and now with Dota 2, it felt like ive never played anything like that. Everything is so much harder then in LoL.

DOTA2 looks amazing in action. HoN, just looks like an "HD" WC3.

Its called personal opinion, so just drop it like sabin mentioned.
If HoN is still a clusterfuck for you then u havent played enough HoN. Imo, most spell effects are very hard to see in dota2, like sandkings ult, omniknights repel, stun effects, mirana arrow, voids blink etc etc. But I am sure after a 50 games, everything will be crystalclear for anyone in both games.
I personally prefer dota2 graphics, simply because it's such a joy to see the old models again in a new skin, jakiro for example looks very good.

Is the community any better than the community in rival games? If there's one series of games with the scummiest community out there, it's DOTA-style games. Holy shit, talk about hostile and unwelcoming.

Absolutely not! But which community of petitive games really is? Even WoW is lighting up again because of the LFR exploit, lots of drama and flaming issued 
Luckily, over the years, I learned to ignore such fucks. Doesn't even bother me anymore.
Except the "certain" people who're refusing to speak english. Hell, switched to US East in DotA2 because of those "certain" ignorant cunts. It's such a relief to be safe from them
