I would say yea, but I didn't come to the Skyrim thread full of people who love the game to poo poo on it. Some of that shit is almost game breaking though and I don't understand why you oblivion/skyrim fans don't raise hell about it (arrow in the head example). That's really what i'm asking. It is pretty repetitive, but as was said earlier, what game isn't? I guess it stands out, for me, in this game because it's such a huge environment and yet you have the same handful of enemies to fight, etc. some of which are a lame waste of time (looking at you, wolves).
Really they could've done targeted body damage and that would've been awesome. They got a helmet on, the arrow deflects off. Shit like that. The game was barely 4gigs, they ahd a another 4 gigs of space they could've filled. Why not have the option to create custom weapons. Like have an assortment of hilts and blades and handles etc to choose from?
Why didn't they innovate on things like that? It was already mentioned but you can craft the same dagger over and over and get the same amount of experience for it. What if you had multiple hilts and blade styles to choose from and could place jewels on the handles? More effort you put into it, the more exp and money it's worth. While i'm on the subject, why does every vendor have 500 or 1000 gold and you can't even collect what your item is worth half the time? Sure you can sell some shit, save and attack the vendor and reload but you shouldn't have to, and you shouldn't have to press a key to "wait" 2 game days either. It's just an unnecessary game function. You shouldn't have to sink a bunch of points in speechcraft either to get every vendor to have an extra 1000 gold.
Well damn I got into it anyway. Sorry 'bout that. I'm not shitting on the game because apparently a lot of people love it regardless of what I think. As I mentioned I spent 80 some hours with it before quitting. I just see the potential that was missed and it sucks. It seems a lot of developers take shortcuts or don't innovate and it's discouraging, that's all. I think as gamers we all need to pay more attention to these things and raise hell about it or they'll keep serving us the same old shit over and over, on the same plate too.

They are limited by consoles hardware, let's not forget that, and of course they'll leave some things out for expansions like they always do. You could introduce 100 more things in this game and it wouldn't make it less repetitive. It would probably raise the number of hours at which you start to feel it's repetitiveness though.
Why would you want vendors to have more money? It's already broken as it is since i'm already carrying more than 100k without anything to buy. But yes, blacksmithing is broken and even in master the game is way to easy.

vaifan1986 wrote: | killabyte wrote: | Ok I want to state first that while this looks like a trolling, it isn't. It says i've put in over 150+ hours but i've often walked off and left the game running while doing other things so i've probably played more like 80 hours or maybe it's been 100. Look at my other posts, I don't troll.
That being said - those of you that love the game, how is it you don't get bored with it? The little things really break this game for me, after 80 hours anyway. Let's see there's the sneaking thing. I can be in broad daylight and walk within 5 ft of someone but they can't see me. I shoot someone in the head with an arrow and the arrow is stickign out their head, but they say "what was that!?!?!??" and search for 30 seconds or so and then say, must've been nothing while the arrow still sticks out their head. Repeat until they're dead. The repetitive voices & dialogue, plus the things that dont make sense - like i've restored the thieves guild and yet i hear from the bar keep how i'm a new recruit or whatever?
Those are just a few things that come to mind. That's not saying anything about the repetitive enemies or "dungeons". Seems someone always wants you to go into some hole in the ground or cave, and they all look alike inside. It's as if the game is unfinished or something. I recall Oblivion playing pretty much the same way. Like Oblivion, after 80 some hours of play I am bored and won't finish it. I even switched from the xbox to the PC thinking the graphical mods and such would spruce it up but it didn't.
I'm not trying to diss the game or come here and shit in anyone's cereal. I just wonder why so many of you that love this game accept this kind of stuff? If they would've tightened up the story and game play I could honestly see where this would be a GOTY contender. I could understand it 5 years ago, but I think enough progress has been made in recent years for them to have made some corrections. |
We accept the flaws because they're outshined by interesting quests, loot, npcs and beautiful landscapes.
We accept them because the game is huge, it's wrecking social lifes and marriages as we speak.
We accept them because we know they'll get fixed,if not by the designers, then by the modders who even before the cc kit has been released, have done amazing things.
You've played it for 80 hours. That's a game length that's practically blasphemy in todays games. And it has replay value. Even before the modders do their thing.
Just think what the creators of Nehrim will do with this game.
I love this game, so do you, you wouldn't have played it for 80 hours otherwise.
Or maybe you took an arrow to the knee, and can't play anymore. |
^^ This.
The whole "sense of entitlement" thing a lot of the people on here convey is ridiculous..

I don't think they will release DLC in a long time, the game is still being played by a lot of people and selling.
I used to be a knee like you. Then I took an adventurer in the arrow.

Have you heard of this "Deus Ex: Human Revolution" game?
@killabyte: I didn't mention it on my previous post but I agree with most of the stuff you complained about (except on the dungeons part).
Dunno... the good still outweighs the bad, I guess?
Oh and complaining about it on their forums? Have you ever been to those forums?

I'm so over that game. Any time I try to have another go I always end up playing by means of stealth as shooting your my through really isn't satisfying at all, then there are barely any (if any, till the end) choices that make a real difference.
That game would need some *serious* DLC to rekindle interest. TW2 is another one I can't wait to get more from. | I quite liked TML.
My expectations for this one are low though, could barely get into most FO3 DLC's so if skyrim's turn out like those...

They should just outsource the dlc's to Obsidian and get cracking on Fallout 4 as a launch title for the next xbox.

I don't quite understand the complaint about the dungeons not being unique. How would it make any sense to make every single dungeon unique? What retard dwemer architect would build every underground city in a completely different way? Dungeons may seem alike, but they are huge, all serve a different purpose and the dwemer dungeons in this game are some of the best in any RPG to this date. There are still some caves of course which are small and only serve a menial service, but that is quickly forgotten when you enter a new huge dwemer dungeon or a grotto with some beatiful fauna and waterfalls in it.
I personally think the expectations are totally unrealistic. People expect a totally open world, with 100% unique content all over the place and complete interaction with the world. How is that even possible? What game has ever achieved such a feat to this date? I do agree there are many points to improve in this game, but it is as good as it gets at its current state.

I prefer the dwemer ruins in Morrowind, they're much less linear and open. Of course not having things like levitation in Skyrim limits the design possibilities somewhat, but would it have killed them to put alternate routes in some of them.

Why would they have stopped using Oblivion's dungeon design if time was of the essence? The game sold like crazy, even with unimaginative dungeon design. How does Skyrim even come close to depicting the dev as lazy? They could've just done the same thing as with Oblivion, re-use, recycle, repeat. It still would've sold millions.

Actually they would have.. different kinds of stone and ores run in veins through the earth. Some are easier to dig through than others, and some are more valuable. They might start off in a similar basic shape, but they might dig differently as they progress if they struck certain kinds of metals or useful things, leading to different shapes and layouts.

Dwemer dungeons do have different shapes and layouts, they're just not all unique. There are even books about that subject ingame.

I've got 60 hours in so far and still havnt discovered 3 of the main cities.
my only complaint is when I'm exploring random dungeons and find quest items and they are stored in my inventory until... I guess I find the person who wants that item and I can say "here I already got it" i think?
I wish there was a way to determine which dungeon, cave or whatever is a quest place or a random instance.

Yeah, but those are mostly misc fetch quests. Far less annoying than in DA2 where it was almost every smegging quest.
And the main quest and guild quests don't have that. So it's all good.

Generally that is the case, however I've encountered a fair few times where taking a quest item before you receive the quest actually breaks said quest.
So now I've just learnt to try and not take suspiciously named objects or save before taking one and try to drop it to see if it is quest related.

It would be nice if they made it so when you pick up a quest item and don't have the quest, at least have some kind of trigger to lead us in the right direction like "oh this item has markings from Riften, maybe someone in riften knows who this item belongs to"
