+1 Interested to know that as well, if american nightmare is PC confirmed, well as confirmed as it could be at this time. The dev team at official forums are being quiet about the whole thing.

- Neither has been "confirmed".
- Remedy said they'd like both to be on the PC, if possible.
- Steam lists "Alan Wake" only.
I might remove the AN part from the title, because we might have jumped the gun. Here's why I am saying this:
The fact this is listed under the Remedy Compilation, instead of Microsoft Compilation suggests this is funded/self-published by Remedy and Microsoft isn't responsible for this port. If this is the case, and it isn't a change of heart by MS, just Remedy doing what they always said they would do if they could (they had said something like "let's just say the decision to scrap the PC version wasn't made in Finland") then we might have to wait once again for months for AN's publishing rights to revert back to Remedy to port it.

MODS!!! True open world alan wake I read that there are a lot of left overs from the open world days that are still on the game disk(for xbox) and they just blocked it off by walls and barriers.
From the official forum.
Morry wrote: | Mikki explained this quite well one time. Technically, all of the parts of each episode can be found in one big game world. However, due to the structure of the game, these parts are not linked together neatly. Whilst they would exist on the map, there's no guarantee you could travel between them without falling through the map.
To make it happen, someone at Remedy would have to go through the entire game world, link locations together and make sure there are no bugs in the geography. This would be a massive task for no worthy gain. |
MikkiRMD wrote: | As Morry says, I've talked about this before in more detail, but briefly: it's not a glitch, it's intentional, and yes, if it wasn't for that, you could walk around everywhere, until you got stuck somewhere in the environment, which would probably happen pretty quickly because only the parts of the environment that we actually use in the game have been polished properly. (There was no point in doing that because we knew we weren't going to be using those areas anyway)
Of course it could be patched in theory -- in theory, we could patch in a flying mode and a dragon that sells hotdogs -- but it'd be a lot of work. Not so much because of the fall through thing, but because the environments outside the playable area are unpolished and, as a result of that, largely unplayable, and it's a pretty big world. So not only would it be a huge effort to make that area playable purely in terms of the environment art, but it would also be a waste of time, because there's nothing out there for you to see except more woods. "Exploring" that is not as exciting as you might think. I'm sure it'd be fun for ten or fifteen minutes, but after realizing that there's nothing to do there, I guarantee that the thrill would wear off real quick.
There are also many, many other technical issues that would arise from the fact that after a certain point we knew that we were not creating an open world experience and from that point on, we implemented things accordingly.
So it would be a massive amount of work that would accomplish very little, and it's not going to happen.
(Also, thanks for illustrating once again one big reason why we don't like to talk about things prematurely -- if we'd just never uttered the words "open world" in public, we wouldn't have to rehash this conversation on a regular basis. Not that I'm saying that you shouldn't ask! It's not your fault; that's a totally legitimate question. I just wish that you didn't have an incentive to ask it. =)) |

ITS NOW OFFICIAL:
Quote: | We weren't going to release a PC version... then we took an arrow to the knee.
Seriously though guys, we know how much you all have wanted this and now it's finally official - Alan Wake is coming to the PC and will be released during the first quarter of 2012!
The PC release will also include both DLC's, The Signal and The Writer!
To celebrate the announcement we're giving you all a sneak peak with the first screenshot in all it's hi-def glory, you can see the screenshot by clicking the thumbnail:
More details will come soon but for now you can check out the full press release below!
Remedy Entertainment is proud to announce the PC release of Alan Wake. Coming in early 2012, the game will give PC gamers the Alan Wake experience they have been patiently waiting for. Remedy is a developer with deep roots in the PC space (Death Rally and Max Payne 1 and 2), so the game will have the high resolution polish that longtime fans will expect.
The PC version of the game will also include The Signal and The Writer downloadable content.
Alan Wake tells the story of a best-selling writer suffering from writer’s block. He goes on vacation to the small town of Bright Falls with his wife, Alice, to gain back his creative flow. Shortly upon arrival, Wake finds himself trapped in a nightmare when his wife mysteriously goes missing. He keeps finding pages of a manuscript he apparently wrote, but can’t remember writing. The manuscript is coming true. An involving psychological action thriller, Alan Wake raises the bar in storytelling and creating a suspenseful cinematic experience.
To get a sneak peak at Alan Wake for PC, please check out the first screenshot:

Release window sound familiar? That’s because Alan Wake’s American Nightmare for Xbox Live Arcade will also be available in the first quarter of 2012! For more information and updates, please visit Facebook www.facebook.com/alanwake and Twitter @Remedygames. |

TWIN PEAKS is "something of a miracle."

Great news indeed. You guys remember when they demoed it on those early Intel quad-core cpus?
Will be interesting to see, if it can actually take advantage of 4+ cores...

It used a core for sound, a core for streaming and a core for physics IIRC. Nothing that hasn't been done in other games.
