Can someone give me a quick summary of what this game is about, and why it's so popular?
I've been wanting to buy it - but based on screenshots - it doesn't really seem like my thing.

@garus: nope, there's no account authentication or anything like that.
@Casus: A lot of people say it's 2D Minecraft, but in Terraria there's a lot more emphasis on combat and advancement via gear (which enables you to fight tougher enemies, which drop better loot, which enables you to fight even tougher enemies and so on). You can build stuff of course, but the fact it's just two dimensions limits it somewhat. There's always something to aim for, and it's easy and fun for co-op since things like boss fights don't take that long to do.

Well it doesn't have classes, skills or anything like that (tho depending what gear you use, you can be ranged, caster or melee, the spells are in form of items that you use).

Hmm, sounds interesting enough I suppose - though my problem with this type of game was always the lack of an overall goal or "ending" to achieve. Much like most MMOs.
But I'll check it out eventually, I'm sure.

I can give the world a reset if you want me to, or i can just setup a second one on a different port so that "newbies" can learn the game on that one?
I don't really care what happens, so those that play alot come with a plan together.

I believe we need a reset. Not sure about now, but last time I checked somebody left their faucet running and flooded the world. I'm part to blame also, since I didn't know that killing the wall of flesh would make all the enemies stronger, which makes playing without a near end-game character almost impossible. If anyone asks, INZ made me do it.

Just did a test with a friend, the cracked copy works on the legit server.
So you don't have to own it to play with us

When (if) I'll have some free time I'll watch some proper tutorials and will finally join the servers, I'm a super-noob when it comes to play Minecraft-Terraria

For you new guys. Just punch in the name of whatever you have to see what you need to make it. Or type in the name of what you want. IE if you want to know how to make pick axes, just type in pick axe

My advice would be just to play the game. Exploring and finding stuff slowly at your own pace is something that appeals the most to me in a game like Terraria.
If you really don't know what to do, you probably should build a basic shelter first, even if it's only a hole in the ground. This will help you survive the first night. The "guide", whos the first and only NPC available at the start of the game can give you not only hints on what to do next, but can show you all the recipes available in the game. Give him a peace of wood, and hell show you all the possible things you can make with it. After that, start exploring. Collect various materials and try to find out what they can be used for. Start hunting for ores so you can forge better tools, weapons and armor.

Yeah, you could do that... Or you could POWERGAME TO TEH MAX! Live in a dirt hovel or wield unlimited power! Study and know anything and everything, exploit every trick in the book, skip whole gear tiers to get the best loot possible asap - all that good fun!

Yeah that's probably the most fun to start playing; the wiki can be very helpful at times for the more obscure stuff, but the Guide is really useful now since he can tell what you can make with every item in the game.
