Go do a space combat mission, and while the timer counts down during space combat alt-tab and play Freelancer for 9 minutes instead. |
They're overhauling the space portion?
Have they explained what they're doing to it? |
The lead dudes have stated a couple of times that the current space stuff is just filler for when they have the time later to do something more full fledged.

What's so bad about TOR? I've been on the fence on buying this one... I don't play MMOs but I've heard TOR is practically a single player game that is very plot heavy, just like KOTOR? No? |
Apart for lack of polish in some areas there's nothing wrong about SWTOR. It's just a style of game that don't appeal to everyone. I wanted to play this game more like a single player game. And I was told I could by either their marketing (silly of me to believe in that) and my friends that have long been awaiting this game. In the end, this game is kinda shallow in its singleplayer element in my opinion, it just doesn't work well enough. No amount of voice over is gonna fix that if there's not quite good enough gameplay. If the story quests were more instanced and scripted, I bet it would have been more interesting. But then MMORPG fans would rage that it's not that much of an MMO anymore. Also being this an MMO you are basically required to do things you don't enjoy, the XP gains from main story alone isn't enough and you'll soon find that you have to play a PvP, do dungeons or do boring side quests to get to a level required for next part of main story. That brings me to next thing, BioWare practically encourage you to make multiple characters and do the other class stories as well, but having to complete most of the side quests again is just mind boggling. These side quests gets tedious after level 20, I cannot imagine myself doing them for second time! BioWare tried to find a middle ground between singleplayer and MMORPG. Many people are happy what they have come up with, some don't.
Also, planets are static and quite small, they don't feel like a living world, they are mostly ghost planets filled with some NPC waiting for players to come by and start conversation.

oh look people finally realizing this isnt mmorpg.. but hey we all agreed on that before too.. but this is one crappy single player rpg.. static, decision meaningless.. copy paste 24/7 huge price tag.. go play skyrim, two worlds, witcher, and so on if you want rpg..
pick rift ( if you didnt play it yet ) if you want mmorg.. you will be surprised just how good that game currently is.. and its bargain you can get copy for 5-10 $

No I dont agree, sure freelancer is one of the best space combat games out there, not to mention Tie Fighter and the sw space sim released after that where you played as ace azzameen, the space combat in SWTOR isnt supposed to stand out on its own but be a complement, something todo when you get bored of questing and doing pvp. I personally love some of the missions, the attack on the imperial super star destroyer is very spectacular.
Its a fun little distraction though like you mention I cant wait for a proper space combat addon where you can actually fly small fighters aswell as your bigger "millenium falcon" type ship.
Space Combat pvp would be a wet dream

lol @ go play rift. I'd rather practice being able to suck my own dick then go play a near-death MMO. If I didn't take into account lack of player population i'd go back and start Vanguard again. If you want to talk about a good MMO that would be it. Of course, lack of player population breaks or makes MMO's; The sun has set on Rift.

Leveling in Rift was the most boring experience i ever had in an mmo, also almost every class had 1 or 2 button rotations thanks too macros there was no point playing without them since everyone was using them.
Endgame was ok i guess but im sick and tired of raiding, atleast in Tor the leveling is fun and there is a point in playing alts dunno about endgame but i have so mutch fun playing atm i think this will be my mmo till Gw2 comes out.

That was my problem with Rift too. I macroed my rotation on one button, and ran around spamming E the entire time. Good times.

There we go again, Ahto City down .... i really don't expand my subs. I have 1 month paid and i have a gamecard after that they can kiss my ass. All the downtimes is not worth my money, infact they should give users 1-2 days extra when they are offline.

if you were on ahto, it didnt worked last couple days, you were probably just lucky and were on one of the very few planets that it did work
(it didnt work on tython, fleet, tatooine, Bal, Nas etc etc.)
