Two faucets instead of one in the middle with a "lever" or what you want to call it (flip? / switch?) to switch between varying degrees of hot and cold, thus here using the bottle for that effect instead, or something like that.
(Or so I understood it.)

So do people outside of the UK think we don't have these already? Personally I think two separate faucets are better.

That's why you use the sink and why it has a plug hole and plug.
I'm not too sure how modern heating systems work but with the old heating systems you have a hot water tank that has that black sludge crap at the bottom of the tank. So for a bathroom sink, where you brush your teeth, I think it's better to have the taps separate.
When you guys fill the kettle to boil water, do you use water from the hot water tap, and if not, then why?

Due to your ass backwards method of supplying water to houses (Well, it's not ass backwards, it's just really old.), you guys basically require a seperation of the pressures. They do sell the 2 in 1 spickets, but all they are is basically two pipes going up to the end of the spicket so it gives the illusion of coming from one source. Yet you can still see and feel a clearly defined seperation and it generally sucks compared to the water delivery methods of other countries.

It's fairly simple. We have 2 taps. One for hot and the other for cold.

Or you could just have one that you pull and then set the direction on to decide how warm you want it or not.
Imagine the simplicity of that.
I guess you haven't though as you are still using two seperate taps.

Having two faucets is so uncomfortable, I really fail to see the utility of all this ...unless both have tepid water xD

No.
It's due to the fact that because their homes aren't supplied a reasonable water pressure from the city pipes, and they refuse to invest in these things called 'pumps' the hot and cold taps must remain seperated otherwise the pressure from the cold water is to much for the pittance of the pressure from the hot water tank. Even the normal water pressure isn't that much though, given the fact that all the pressure supplied is from a tank up in the attic. In any other country the pressure from the city is provided by water towers, or pumping houses - So each house doesn't need a little tank up in the roof.
It was an effective method of water distribution in the early/mid 1900's. Most countries have moved pass that now though.

No, just man-up and use the cold water for less than a minute. It's not even worth running the hot water for that amount of time, it's just a waste of gas.
