First of there is only one Football and thats Football ( That you play whit your Foot/Feets). I cant stand Americans calling (American Handball) yes Handball football. Becuse you play whit your (Hand) You keep it whit you you run whit it etc etc. It shud be called American Handball or something pick a name just whatever just dont call it Football
I cant stand having a conversation and bringing up Football and the guy/girl says American or European?. And i refuse to call it soccer becuse that just aint the original name now is it now? Its Football FOOTBALL YOU PLAY IT WHIT YOUR FEET. I dont understand how such a ripoff can be done they have traces of Football beeing played back to the 13 century.
"Historical orthodoxy suggests football has been played in England since the thirteenth century. In those days, football was little more than an excuse for a riot, a parochial, lawless affair with village pitted against village with unlimited numbers of people chasing through streets, across fields and through bogs in pursuit of the ball."
Comon pick another name dammit.

Theres a game called American Handball already It usually involves a small rubber ball and a wall.
Also, us Canadian's call 'handball' football.
CFL n such.
I don't necessarily agree with the term for it, because you're right, it involves hands mostly (though some kicking is involved). It's closer to rugby than it is to what the europeans consider soccer.

I actually play a different variation of handball, a take on wallball with a smaller ball, made of a thick, soft rubber material and hollow inside. It's hit with one's hand against the wall, the game is playd on a small court 2v2. I was surprised myself to find out that handball was "officially" a different sport. Throughout New York it's the same thing.

i wouldnt call it american handball, i d call it "american rugby" or "rugby for pussies with helmets" or "american wannabe sport sensationalism shit",
i just hate american football so much.
one guy grabs the ball and runs for like 2 seconds, gets smashed to the ground by a group of other guys hungry for some manlove.
then they all move 2 meters to the front and repeat the same shit, till they reach the line and the quarterback can thro a touchdown and then do a stupid gay dance, goddamn i hate this sport, so pointless...
btw the thing that reeeeally pisses me off is when you talk about football and some damn american says wait thats not football, thats soccer.
SOCCER!
damn i feel like beating him to pulp i so cant stand this ignorance.

Its rugby with protection gear! Theyre like small tanks running around with all those pads clinching the pad with their fists. I have the same feeling as D_A_Kuja does about people calling it soccer.

Last time i checked Football ( The real one) Was much bigger then American Handball. so there is no need for to be jealous No need to be if you ripped off Rugby (The game) Football (The name) and put in some small things on your own. and some other sports at the same time. That would be like i Ripped of a car model from Mercedes Changed color of it and i called it Bmw.

This also pisses me off. Call it whatever you want but when I talk about FOOTBALL don't say "oh you mean soccer" when its called FOOTBALL by the majority of the planet you ignorant american bastards!
BTW, the reason americans call american football football is because the ball used in the sport is a foot long.

The use of the term "football" in English-speaking countries:
Depending on which part of the world you live in, the word football when referring to a specific game can mean any one of the above. Because of this, much friendly controversy has erupted over the term football, primarily because it is used in different ways in different parts of the world.
* In Australia, football and "footy" are contested terms, which have different meanings from one region to another. Australians generally fall into four camps when it comes to the use of them:
o In most of the Australian states, "football" means Australian rules football. There is little or no popular differentiation between the two kinds of "rugby".
o In the States of New South Wales and Queensland, most people refer to rugby league simply as "football". Rugby union is known simply as "rugby". Australian rules is often known in these areas as "AFL", a name which refers to the main organising body, the Australian Football League.
o In areas in which all three codes are popular, especially the Australian Capital Territory, the Northern Territory, and The Riverina (south-western NSW), the word football is rarely used and the names "league", "union" and "Aussie rules" (or just "rules") are generally used, to avoid confusion.
o In Australia, American football, which is far less popular than the above-mentioned codes, is known as "gridiron".
o Association football has been generally known as "soccer" in Australia. The multicultural TV broadcaster SBS usually refers to the game as "football", although the word "soccer" is used as well. In 2004, the governing body changed its name to Football Federation Australia.
* In Canada, "football" can refer to either Canadian football or American football, often differentiated as CFL or NFL football. Association football, which is rapidly gaining popularity but lacking professional development, is called "soccer".
* In New Zealand, "football" refers to rugby union. Association football is called soccer. American football is called gridiron.
* In Ireland, "football" can mean Association Football or Gaelic Football depending on the county. For example, in County Dublin, 'Football' means Association Football and will sometimes be referred to as Soccer. In rural areas, and particularly in the west of Ireland, 'Football' is Gaelic Football and Association Football is only ever referred to as Soccer. In Ireland, Gaelic Football is a term rarely used. Where disambiguation is required between this sport and Association Football, it is generally referred to by the acronym of its governing body 'GAA' (Gaelic Athletic Association). As the GAA also governs the sports of Hurling, Handball and Rounders, on occasion, disambiguation of all three sports is required. In this case, Gaelic Football would be referred to as 'GAA Football'.
* In South Africa, "soccer" and "football" both refer to association football, although the name "soccer" is more commonly used. Rugby football is called "rugby".
* In the United Kingdom, and in most other English-speaking countries, "football" usually refers to Association football. Rugby union is often referred to as "rugby" (and as "rugger" only by those educated at private schools). The sport of rugby league is referred to by those who follow it as "league" or "football", the use of "rugby" to refer to rugby union is not very popular among followers of league. Australian Rules Football (which is much less common) is known as "Aussie rules football". A British punk band, Wat Tyler, has released a song entitled, "It's Football, Not Fuckin' Soccer". At Eton College "football" still referred to the Eton Field Game until very recently. Soccer is still formally referred to as "association football" and the school's premier team is called "the association" both formally and colloquially.
* In the United States, "football" refers to American football. Association football, which is hugely popular by way of participation despite lacking commercial success, is called "soccer", and rugby football, which is less popular still, is usually called "rugby" or occasionally "rugger".

Football is called the beautiful game for a reason. It's also the most popular sport in the world for a reason.
The only reason yanks like american football is because it stops for 10 minutes every 3 seconds so it means they can go and get another hot dog.

i m not speaking about canada here, its all about usa.
btw this isnt a matter of opinion, its a fact. in american football players get gangbanged by other players, in football they dont, so you cant say you think the same of it.
its like saying poison isnt poisonous, facts are facts, no matter how much
you dont like em.

it's not like soccer games are 90 minutes of pure excitement either, in fact most football games are more fun to watch than soccer games

imo its alot more fun watching rivaldo dribble around a whole enemy team
easily than watching a group of wannabe gladiators running after one guy, tackling him to the ground and then jumping on top of each other like in some anonymous sexaholics orgy. this sport has "gay" written all over it.

Football is unrivalled in terms of passion and the influence it has on the cultures where it is popular. Also, it has everything you could possible want in a sport. There is tactics, individualism, teamwork, excitement and anything can happen(look at the champions league final).
The reason it is unpopular in America is that it is subtle. Then again, I was in America when their women's team was doing well in the world cup and people were going crazy over it so maybe it simply boils down to the fact they are crap at it.
