This is completely alien to me. Half the population? what a crock of shit. Never seen anyone i've hand shaken that they seem awkward of scared by it. If i had this problem i would simply say i don't handshake.

Hehe Man various places has shaken hands the last 2000 years as a symbol of not carrying a weapon. Try and shift your handshake to a crushing one, maybe next time you will see fear
1) NES if off
2) Yes....yes they are
3) Could be one in the system as well
4) Very well could be, there is an angle we can't see where the kid in yellow is standing.

You don't, you can't. Free is free and most people will take the free option every time as long as the risk is zero or minimal. Generally the only "competitor" to free is conscience and good nature of the person in question.
As Jeff said. You download torrents with ex. 4 clicks. Make legal stuff 3 clicks.
Users will pay just becouse they want this fast. And if fastest way will be to pay for it and instantly have it. There You go.
Offcourse that is not totally solution...

So you're telling me you're happy to pay, for example, €50 just to have something downloaded in 3 clicks rather than paying €0 and having to click 4 times?

Steam is already (IMO) better than free. Hell, you can see that this is a very popular opinion, as already said in another topic- many times if the indie bundles don't include Steam versions of the games, many people don't even bother.
Hell, I own many games on Steam that I actually own retail, for the sake of convenience (If I put it on my Steam account, it will be there forever where I can always find it.)
Steam figured out something that few companies have - people will accept certain restrictions on their usage, even pay more for them, if you add value to the service. Steam organizes all the titles in one place, updates them automatically and provides a community network on top of that. People are willing to pay for that because it adds a level of service that piracy can't provide.
It keeps me organized, auto-updates, throws a few achievements in the mix(not that I really care, but hey), and games are reasonably priced (especially during a sale).
noooo. I don't know how to do this, but certainly not by making it harder for legal users.
And really? 50usd is to much? We have to pay an equivalent of 250usd for console game... Thats relativly to salary that is. i would be happy if my games were 5 times cheaper.
but thats how it is. It sucks in countries like Poland..
Anyway. games, movies and other media are way to expensive and to fucked up for legal user. You don't get unskippable ads and shit in pirated bluray movies Do You?
You don't need a disc in dvdrom and constant checks or internet access for pirated games Do You?
Acta,Sopa, Drm, higher prices - defy not the way.
i am still going to say that piracy doesnt hutt game developers all that much.
blablabla - We sold only 5mln copies of out game and 3mln copies got pirated!!!
its not like it wasnt "piratable", those 3mln copies would be bought ...
yes Neon - Steam is quite great despite need for internet connection. But prices are western. Which are way to expensive in some countries

You're preaching to the choir, good sir, my Steam account is worth over €3k I'm just saying - making something free is a huge incentive to people and one less "click" really isn't enough to make them choose a €50 option over a free one. Making the PRODUCT awesome is the only incentive that matters .. you need to make people WANT to buy it, WANT to support the developer/publisher/artist. Only then does the free option seem less applicable.

dafuq that is!
Poland example:
Lets say that I earn 1500-2000 a month and console games costs 250.
lets say that You earn 1500-2000 a month and console games costs 50-60. DAFUQ that is. Fucking Poland. i hate this fucking country. Everything is so god damn expensive here.
Playstation3/Xbox360 costs 1500... THAT IS WHOLE SALARY. And there is food, taxes and stuff. There is no way In Poland(unless You dont have family or You are rich) to buy legal media. Its either life or console game.
