Just an update if anyone cares. Kicked the editors' asses today at the 1UP BF2 match. So now ehrm, I apparently have 2 copies of BF2. What to do...what to do.... Razz

Honestly I was expecting way more of a fight. I mean christ, these guys SUCKED like no comparison. Round ended like 200 - 0...was so sad.
These are the people we look up to for game buying/review decisions...yet they aren't really gamers as I now know. Pretty sad really.
They have the full version of BF2 in their hands..yet nobody on that team had a score of over 15 by the end of the round. So sad.

I can never be free, because the shackles I wear can't be touched or be seen.

why would anyone even try and play a game with a GF4MX.

LOL. My friend has a GF4MX and he kept thinking he'll be able to play it. I kept telling him he can't. Then finally after downloading the demo it didn't start up for him.

That gamespy review (and the readme) says it needs a Geforce FX 5700 to run but the game runs fine on my comp and my friend's comp and he has a Geforce FX 5200.

That's odd. Hell my friend has an even worse card than me and it works for me. A 5200. Although his comp is like a gig faster than me but he still has to run it all the way down cause of his card. Well if the demo didn't work with your 5600 hopefully the full game doesn't do that with me. I don't even have an ultra.

Oh and sTo0z you still played in that server I saw you in? 69.44.155.115? That's basically the only place I play in now. But I never see you in there.

So.. Does the retail have the same insane system requirements as the demo or have the devs come to their senses?

Insane? It runs pefectly on my old p4 3.2, 1gb, 9800pro with 4x aa 4x aniso and medium/high settings. I dont know how better optimized could it be for how good it looks.

I got a question for the one or two people who have access to the retail game, and I seriously want to know the answer too:

How are the menus? Are they improved from the demo or are they still still glitchy and sluggish as hell?

Yeah a future where marketing skills are completely forgotten and thrown out the window. Seriously, the person who came up with the not so great idea of alienating 50% of the potentional customers by making sure the game won't even start on their computers should be fired.

You've gotta upgrade at some point. Anyway, i'm sure they realise that the true gamesplayers will have an up to date system so I doubt they are losing much profit.

Same reason why games typically require broadband for online play, any decent online play anyway.

Think about it in a different way: if your games look horrible and can be played by 3 year old Gateways and Dells originally purchased for $999, aren't you alienating the people who have good computers by not allowing them to actually utilize their $500 graphics card's abilities?

"True Gamesplayers" = 25% of gaming population.

Do not underestimate the buying power of casual gamers.

As I said, based on friends and other people I've talked with it's 50% if not more. Sure, some of those will upgrade their systems so they can play the game but the majority won't, especially since the problem could be solved by a patch that simply disables the shaders in the game. I mean, if they could be disabled I'm sure the game would run better on my system than Doom 3, so it feels kinda pointless to upgrade just because the devs refuses to make the use of one graphical setting optional.
Consider this, would Morrowind have sold as well as it did if the shader function hadn't been optional? Hell no it wouldn't.

Yeah but morrowind came out over 3 years ago so I woldn't expect shader to capable cards to be mandatory.

Hmm, seems there's a fix that supposedly makes it possible to run the game with my GeForce 4 Ti.
http://www.forumplanet.com/planetbattlefield/topic.asp?fid=13392&tid=1669738

I'm pissed off as hell now though so I won't buy the game as I originally intended to do before the demo crashed on me.
