This game is developed by Gas Powered games (http://www.gaspowered.com/ ) which was founded by the creator of total annihilation but they didn't have the rights to name it 'total annihilation 2' because atari has those rights.
Look at the scans! It looks a lot like TA. I'm sure we'll be hearing more news about this game soon!

Wow! Those big mechs look nasty - comes out 2006 so hoepfully graphics will be better than in those screenshots. This was my favorite RTS ever so I hope Atari who seem to be going down the tubes do not *rush* Chris Taylor for an early release. Supreme Commander - can't wait :-O

Graphics look fine to me, and very retro in regards to the original Smile

Something about the generic-ness of all those small tanks though, it just doesn't look right static, as if it was a photo manipulation of the same tank pasted 17 times for example. See what I mean?

Really liked the original, looking forward to this.

looks awesome but i cant help feeling the graphics may seem a little outdated by 2006...

but TA was all about the gameplay - used to spend hours downloading units and trying them out! quality stuff! Very Happy

ps good to see ships back!

The graphics look really crappy even today! Compare this to games like Earth 2160, Act of War, Panzers.... Shocked
I can only hope that these screens don't do the game justice and/or that there will be a lot of improvement until the final version.

Yes they don't look *amazing* - still they'll prolly optimise the game for the 2 video chipsets & then we'll all be in orgiastic RTS heaven Surprised If you load up the old TA & run it in Win95/98 compatibility mode, the graphics are still okayish, great music & sound & some cool FMV. Hopefully Chris Taylor wont sell out & make this a worthy successor to his Awesome Opus Total Annhilation Very Happy

you guys got to read the article in PC Gamer. The screenshots dont do justice. Chris said there will be REALLY big units. Like a Battleship unit which will span two screens at ground view. Now thats one big mofo.

Chris Taylor knows what he's doing, this game is gonna be major pwnage. For flashy graphics, you can always play Act of War. But you wont see 400+ units battling it out. And when comparing map sizes... TA biggest map size were 256x256 and those were HUGE. Supreme Commander will be 4000x4000

A quick read:
Big units can splash smaller units (kill em by walking/driving over them)
When units blow up, they send also shrapnel around possibly injuring others around
Major units are major units and they do their job really well.

Woohoo ! check out this nasty sub - http://media.pc.gamespy.com/media/755/755287/img_2897684.html These screens look better quality - game sure looks nice - Chris Taylor got the explosions *right* - when you blew up a nuclear reactor or Krogoth the whole screen shook (!)

good reading in the gamespy preview:
http://pc.gamespy.com/pc/supreme-commander/632026p1.html

Seems that they have fixed the (small) problems from TA, added a whole bunch of features, and made it bigger, better and good-looking!!

Looks great, I really like the style of graphics. Better to do fantastically detailed 2D rather then mediorce 3D.

Is it? Take a look at the screenshots, they look 2D to me, I could be wrong though.

If its like TA then there will be elevations like hills, etc that mechs crawl up. They still have till 2006 to jazz it up though current shots look very cool. Hopefully this game will be more about awesome gameplay than an amazing 3D engine - gameplay like in the original TA still ranks as the best of *any* current RTS
