Started playing today, put around an hour and a half into it and it's pretty fun so far.
Have played it for 11 hours now, still in the first area of the big map (5 or 6, I think ) and have barely begun the main quest (haven't talk to Darken), just do side quests and missions. Very long and various game for sure.
Same here (but I've now been to second and third area, I think), I just find the landscapes pretty boring most of the time. I wish for mods with more grass, much much higher lod and better textures. I hope for the later areas to be more intresting...
Unsure what you use to take screens with but some don't capture post-process effects like the FXAA anti-alias and possible color-correction effects and what other shaders you are using with it.
I'm really enjoying this game so far. I'm in the final region with 70 hours on my save, 150 quest complete. Yes the UI and the FOV leaves little to be desired, but somehow I was able to get past it and enjoy the game.
If stats are additive as oppose to multiplicative, my gear and abilities give me ~90% damage resist and ~80% to all damage types. I'm playing full sorcery(Archmage fate now), which was only tough early on and pretty much clear anything with one or two spells now. Too easy at this point(on Hard difficulty), but I still feel compelled to finish the main quest. Spellcasting hasn't felt this powerful since...Sorc on unpatched BG2 or kensai/mage
PS. Funny enough, there is an NPC named Ordo in the final area; it would have been funny if John Cygan also voiced him.

Question: is there any way/mod to increase the maximum level? I hate having the feeling that my power is "artificially capped", even if it's just so in theory. Perhaps some way of reducing current level while keeping all stats?
Not that I know of, but don't worry... that lv40 cap? It's purely mathematical. I have VERRRRRRRY strong doubts you'll get anywhere near it by the time you've finished the game itself, unless you grind like crazy.

Not that I'm aware of, but I'm at level 37 now doing most non repeatable quests I can do, and I'm near the end. I doubt I will even reach 40.
Yeah, FOV fix is crashing for me too when I hit the * key. Not sure what the problem is (using THETA release).
Try changing the version in the config menu. When trying to launch with the Steam option on my Origin copy, prior to the release of the Origin plugin, the game would crash if I tried to activate the app.
is it possible that this game is quite boring? running around in bad looking levls, bad textures all the same. every now and then some enemies that fall in seconds... is this getting better later on?
no one can just enjoy a game for what it is anymore, a game. Enjoy it... If you don't it's not for you, pretty simnple as that. Sounds like some of you are looking for something else to play, lol/ I find the game great, and as I said many times in the past, I have 100 games that I play in small doses to avoid most of the complaints some are posting about... I like it fine..
