How do you get rid of the blur again?

Somebody said "-noblur"....is this is a console command or am I adding this line to an ini file?

You add it to the target shortcut .. but by doing so you remove a lot of the visual distortion effects, not just motion blur.

Cool Face

In all seriousness, the prices are really screwy at the moment. Some people have to pay €28, some only €20 and usually Norway is in the former category. Oh well... it's still worth even €30 in my eyes.

This. I'd pay 30€ too, it's worth that much no doubt.

@timechange01, you add -noblur to your .exe shortcut, but I'd advise against it. Blur is essential to the game, cause for example it's the "health" bar for the Taken, the blur around them. -noblur will remove that effect.

How many open world games have you played, where direction was as strong as it was in Alan Wake? I can't recall a single one, to be honest, and I played many open world games. I have also gotten very bored with open world games and the only open world game to ever come close to scaring me was Stalker.

Remedy, as they confessed, are a company all about story, characters, atmosphere - and this game is about ...SPOILER WARNING ... being the controlled figure in a story (that you wrote), and tightly controlled at that.

If this game would have been open world it would have lost the direction, which was very strong. If it lost the direction, then it would have been less than half this tense ..etc. You see, where I'm going with this.

I love to blame the consoles for as many things as I can, but just like how consoles handled other open world games it could have handled this as well. The reason they decided against the open world is because they wanted a strong narrative.

Also, there are many open world games out there, some of them good - but there are very few games like Alan Wake (the best sort of linear game, that I have played). Why do many of you feel the need to force open world onto things that don't require it?

Open world is about making your own story - Alan Wake is about living through Alan Wake's story.

I see all these discussions about atmosphere in games, yet nobody mentioned the first Witcher. As far as I'm concerned, nothing comes as close to perfection when it comes to atmospheric games, but The Witcher.

Well said!

Also yes The Witcher has a great atmosphere. One of the few games that I've completed 3 times, so it's close to being my personal favorite game ever.

Well back on chapter 3 and so far magic flash bangs appear in every place now that i dont have a gun , awesome , then the radio station crap, completely laughable scripting.

And now the ghosty ghoulies can stand in front of a police cars head light YET before they couldnt stand my cars head light and they still cant stand the torch lol , awesomness at its best i suppose.
What a waste of money.

Yep. And Wake narrating is really badly written. Compare to Payne narration - no competition.

It's the upcoming stand-alone game. Smile

EDIT: Also Shivers was a pretty decent horror game back in the 90's but that's probably because I was younger then. Razz
(You had to trap all these spirits while solving a variety of puzzles with some gore here and there, kinda like Phantasmagoria but not as refined.)

EDIT: Unsure if Stephen king's works would be that good for games come to think of it, getting tied to a bed and being tortured is probably too much for most gamers. Very Happy
(Lida the game? or maybe Green Mile, ha ha, have read several others but have forgotten them, Undying was probably borrowing from someone else.)

Finished it.

The story while nothing special is pretty enjoyable although I was expecting some giant twist in the end - a twist that never came. The gameplay on the other hand is mediocre at best in its core mechanics and is further degraded by endless repetition. You just get to fight the same enemies in different combinations over and over again. I got seriously bored with the action sequences by Episode 3 and just wanted to see how it ends.

6.5/10 Sad

The dark tower would make an epic game, a cross between red dead redemption and umm i dunno.. something, maybe max payne.

Whoever was worried about camera...

Tab to switch from left/right shoulder.
Change FOV in options to change your zoom (3rd person FOV is wonky and often just results in the camera zooming out/in, it's not the same kind of thing you'd see with a low FOV in 1st person).

Facial animations in this game are sooo lifeless, every close-up gives me the creeps. The eyes are completely dead and creepy.
Faces in this game kinda reminds me of Johnny Cab from Total Recall:

So far only played like 15 mins. Would seem like it could be a great game, too early to judge, but oh my god the camera angle is just horrible! It really makes it feel like Alan is limping sideways, really awkward.

Very good post Interinactive, thank you, that makes a lot of sense. And thanks for your input too Radicalus, I guess it must be so since so many ppl completed the game already.
This makes me wonder though, might it feel better with a pad? I have the 360 controller around, but was going to play this with keyb+mouse combo since Remedy has its roots in PC gaming so I thought it would feel just optimal, but.. Opinions?
I know many will tell me to just try it out with both, but I'm curious what other ppl who have pads decided to stick with.

I have a pad but I haven't even for a second thought it would be the better option. You get used to the controls pretty early and as far as i'm concerned the precision the mouse gives your flashlight a pad just couldn't cut it for me.
