How do you actually start the "arcane school" faction questline? In the "arcane school" in the city of Rathir I cant find any questgiver to start the questline.... Confused Did I overlook anything?

Finished it at last : 207 quests done, level 40, 120 hours. Found two stashes i couldn't open, must be a bug or something - i had the keys related to those specific stashes. Hammers are awesome - i used them 90% of the fights. I was a bit disappointed by the complete lack of axes / battlexes. I mean, why would you include chakrams and forget about axes ?

Some help needed : i installed the Skidrow 1.02 update over Theta install, because i wanted to see the DLC items. I moved the saves accordingly, but everytime i start the game is asks me to create a new profile. So i insert my Theta profile name and the savegames work, but it's kinda annoying to do this again and again. Anyone knows a fix for this that does not involve installing the full Skidrow version ?

The arcane school questline begins in Dalentarth, more precise in the Gardens of Ysa.

this game is fucking long, so nice...
BTW, hammer have the highest hitpoints, but really too slow. Can be useful against big big bosses, and swords are good against crazy mobs.

i've finally finished this delightfully fun game after 37h 18m 24s of off and on play. Very Happy

the graphics remind me of world of warcraft. it's stylistic but really, really simplistic. the world looks quite a bit more simplistic when playing at 2560x1600. Sad

perfect xb360 pad support means no need to mess around with the clunky kb & mouse. Razz

the treasure/loot system gets lame after a while. you end up with basically junk in your inventory. it's a good thing you can mark your items as junk then go sell them all at once at the shop or destroy them for money. Smile

there are lots of stuff left to do after you beat the main campaign. i still have a ton of lore stones left to collect in addition to what seemed like an endless amount of side missions to do. i like how you can keep going after you beat the last boss. Wink

i'll probably return to do all the collectible/side missions at some point. but in the mean time, on to the next game! Laughing

stats:

enemies killed: 1,373
quests completed: 45
locations discovered: 92

twists of fate:

destiny defiant
siegebreaker
unstoppable force
temperance
unwritten one
foresworn
unraveller

I deleted the game, I just couldn't bear the constant grinding anymore. The story was interesting but the sheer amount of combat put me off. I'll keep the saves in case I'll want to continue later.

How far along the main questline was I if I got the spear for the general and still had to go to that gnomish city to speak with an important person there?

The second continent is a bit faster due to the more focused progress of the main storyline so say 65% to 70% completion for the above.
(But the large amount of monsters probably slows down progress and there's no shortage of side quests either plus you can find some really nice equipment via exploration although this goes for most of the "hubs" in the game.)

thx, will surely finish the whole thing, playing for 28h right now and still in the first continent (in the red desert), completing almost all side-quests.

If you enable it outside of a menu or even the main menu it does tend to stretch things, to fix it you can then switch from one location to another (Go into a door and then back for example.) and it should reset, I use 65 currently as it's pretty balanced. Smile

(Aspect ratio auto-detection only works on NV also, easiest is to set it manually, also check so that the WS program is up to date as it's updated very often, now supports Amalur directly for example by integrating the earlier plugin work, with some small fixes.)

I am playing this game and the only thing that annoys me the respawning of crates, chests, regents and enemy. it doesnt give you sense of accomplishment. I like my game to be like divinity for example so any chest looted or cave cleared stays that way. So you always have the urge to explore every inch to clear the cave and find every chest, but in amalur you know that every thing will be respawned which to me is a negative aspect Sad

some people may like this feature but to me it made my expectation go low a little bit and the only thing that keeps me going is the story and wanting to know more about this new world that they created.

Chests and any other container is not supposed to respawn are they? only exception is that they do respawn in Haxhi for some reason which I assume is a bug (Every time I re-enter the area it they all reset.) but I've cleared most of the chests from the different regions by now and nothing has respawned otherwise.
(Other than enemies which respawn in some 1-day cycle or what it might be, regents also regrow but that's normal to me since they're plants.)

haven't seen chests respawn only herbs and the odd mob that bugged and respawned nearly instantly

fixed the savegame issue by just resaving in my old install then swapped it in to steam and worked perfectly

There are several scripted respawns and those little cutscene things I call ambushes, particularly later on in the game when trying to proceed past other pre-placed mobs for example and often when opening a hidden chest or similar, I really dislike how often they keep sending those imps+champions but it's also used for most other enemies but none are as common as those imps. Smile
(But a Bolgan group is more dangerous and the Tresh+Boggarts isn't particularly fun either, spiders are just a nuisance though unless accompanied by that other thing what it's name was again and of course there's the occasional ettin and jottun and more rarely those spirit things, as might be obvious most enemies are used in this way although some lesser mobs like wolves or bears are often never encountered like this and Tuatha groups gradually become more frequent and trolls appear now and again too along with Merklin or what those fish creatures and their mother beast was called.)

It wouldn't really be all too bad but these groups give chase a pretty far distance and they always and immediately detect you and rush straight at you, often triggering nearby mobs in the process.

EDIT: Guards also respawn infinitely so resisting arrest is doable but you have to flee and the same goes after a jailbreak of course, paying off the fine (bribing) is more convenient but quickly gets very expensive.
(Without the right skills at least, ~7000 for each murder isn't too bad later on in the game, don't kill named NPC however as they might be important in quests.)

when you exit the allestar tower and jump into water there is a hidden area behind the water fall with chests that need lockpicking and dispelling and whenever you return there after a while they are there again and you pick lock them and dispel them again (I am just starting Gorhart so i didnt go far in game but i am just saying my first impressions and what i have seen so far)
I am with you that plants regrowing is normal but i dont like it in a game, otherwise the feeling of scarcity of items makes you think and take care about what you will craft next (for example you will loose the " X" regent that you only have 1 or 2 of them to create this item or that item? and you have to choose or wait to discover another "X" regent to craft both items if you want so you feel the urge to go explore and find what you missing.

And Also Crates And Urns Growing ?? Laughing

I forgot about the crates and urns and other breakable items (Not interactive like the chests and bookshelves and such.), honestly I don't usually break them because the ~20 gold (Just how does that work? - http://www.actiontrip.com/comics/at_comic470.phtml ) isn't really all too useful albeit sometimes breaking them do have a purpose in revealing hidden items. Smile
(But yes they reset really fast.)

That small area with the rats that kinda look like a cave also does not respawn here, although the rats return some time after killing them like nearly all pre-placed mobs do.
(You must have the same "bug" for that area that I have with Haxi.)

EDIT: Actually the breakables really remind me of the old SNES Zelda game (A link into the past or what it was called.) as they work really similar even down to how they respawn. Very Happy
(But with less interesting stuff in them for Amalur, and you don't get attacked by a army of chickens in this game just because you beat / tossed one of them around slightly.)

Technically it wasn't made for single monitors, but you can use it on that if you set your normal resolution as the one used. And lower the FOV to like what JB said 65 that's also where I have it at..

Try to leave uncorrected Resolution At : 5760 X 1080 ( the default value for Reckoning Dll plugin when you first downloaded the prog and start it ) and dont change it to your resolution, JUST LEAVE IT AS IT IS.

and then try FOV at 170

then start the game and activate the widescreen fixer with the in game activation button (default " * " ) and then DISABLE it again ( press the activate button once it wont do a thing then press the SHOULDER look once ( default " \" ) or twice and the screen will return to a view Not too close like the default view and not Too far like the widescreen fixer view )

It worked for me and i tried it with 1920 X 1080 ( in game resolution) and 23 Led screen.

i hope it works for you as it worked for me Smile

EDIT : i always use 80 or 90 in other games but this game this Weird solution Worked for me Laughing

The later (Current is r366 Feb 21st I think.) versions of the plugin (EDIT: Program) improved single monitor handling although it's best to set resolution and aspect by yourself as it doesn't always auto-detect properly, as a third person game FoV should probably not be too high either but the default of 45 or what it was can be increased to around 70 or so for single monitor usage depending on personal preference.
(I normally use between 75 to 80 in FPS titles - depending on how it scales and other things - but here 65 or maybe even 60 seems to suffice as to not zoom too far back.)

http://www.widescreenfixer.org/
(Since it keeps separate configs for each version installed due to how it's coded - C:\Users\UserNameHere\AppData\Local\David_Rudie\* - you need to re-adjust each config after updating or copying the old one over again to the new version number config, can delete the old version folders too since it's unlikely you would downgrade the program.)
