Yah,so long story short i decided to do somehting usefull with my time and started a Gpu centric site/blog.

I want it to be like a database site for gpu's,with post detailing every gpu from the 2 gens ago onwards. So for example i detail a gpu in a post, with pro reviews gathered nicely into a section, some benchies, some performance ladders to see where it stacks up against competition.

The problem is my mind is mush,i can't seem to start,im thinking this is better,no wait this is better. Then im thinking its gonna be kinda of a useless site.

Here it is btw : www.geepu.net ,im not even indexed yet,so don't worry about me spamming it,but i could really need some pointers,on the content structure side of things,i think i got the design how i want it ,but thats mostly thanks to the theme.

Thanks btw Smile

I like the visuals Smile

I'd decrease the margin-top and margin-bottom for the logo, because I personally don't like when actual content starts in the middle wasting tens of pixels for giant margins.

"cough" How do i do that ? Very Happy

I tried rezising the logo, triming the canvas, but it seems its the theme doing the spacing.

You said honest:

  • First and foremost, why? What do you offer people with this site that they can't get elsewhere at a well established one? What incentive do they have to come back for another visit or care?
  • Your layout's all over the shop
  • Don't use large low res imagery
  • Way too much empty space is taken up by nothing at the top of the page, the logo is huge too, for what reason?
  • Why are AMD/Nvidia areas not equally weighted?
  • Most of your small grey text/buttons wouldn't pass a contrast test, it's on white, it should be darker
  • Too much footer space with nothing in it
  • Your tables need padding
  • Gallery isn't the best, many plugins can make opening those images on the spot a pleasant experience
  • The bottom links in posts are styled like dogs balls
  • The call to actions on your featured images are way too small
  • Home should be in the main nav too, I know you have it at the top, but that's not your main nav
  • Don't use empty paragraphs to create space, style tables and add margins to the bottom of headings instead
  • The 4870X2 image is chopped off
  • The corners on the white content area are images, which wouldn't be bad if it didn't look like they were wrong, they seem to have a slight grey pixelation running through them, just make them CSS3 corners and let it gracefully degrade on garbage browsers

It looks like the template was butchered a bit, which would explain some of the issues above.

Sorry if it sounds harsh, but I see these kind of sites opening and closing on a daily basis. You need to first come up with something people need. If you go to TomsHardware for example, you have a million product reviews already with stats + a huge community who all contribute to it with opinions, news, facts etc. You should try filling a niche or joining somebody else if you're that passionate about it. Unless it's just a design/dev exercise, which it doesn't really sound like.

1.How can i reduce the space under the logo,i trimed the logo down but it doesnt affect anything, its still a large area
2.How can i weight them ? where ?
3.How can i do the CSS3 on the corners ?

Rest of the issues are minore and i can fixem up and pay attention next time, but the things above i can't find a sollution to.

Any ideeas ?

Btw,with the whole relevance thing,im not looking to be an authority or some sort in the GPU stuff,im just trying to make all the info they would ussualy try to find and compare on many sites, available into a neatly structured post about that GPU for instance, lke a resource for Pro reviews, some oc cases.

Thanks btw

Get FireBug for FireFox or use the Chrome Inspector (FireBug is still the best of all of them though).

Thanks Werelds.

Now,to a point that Interinactive made, going to Toms and getting all that wonderfull info.

Lets say im tech derp and i want to buy a monster video card for my new gaming rig .

So i go and search for "radeon 5870 review"

So i got this

I gotta go through 3 misleading adsense links, some forum posts, and then when i filter reviews i gotta go through another 3 adsense links, and 2 vague articles about some test that they used a 5870 untill finally i get to the 5870 review.

I mean ,im not trying to delude myself into thinking im doing something nobody else did or does, but i think i can provide a much smoother,to the point experience.

In the GPU resource area i mean.

When someone views the 5870 article on my site,i want them to have 30 PRO reviews in a nice box to go trough.
