what tech can you add, tech literally doesnt exist in this game, its there just because its in every paradox game, somewhere its even said there was no real technology at that time, just very very minimal changes
and its so slow, regions based, and with huge minuses if you are ahead, and you are always ahead if you have +1, because half map starts with all 0 tech
what kinda minuses for being ahead? Haven't noticed anything so far.
And especially the top culture techs are very helpful giving you +x amount of opinion from your clergy/feudal/burgher vassals? That's very nice to have if, for some reason, you end up with a ruler that is complete and utter crap that everybody hates.
The military techs are... meh. I usually focus on siege speed, army morale and siege defense.
Though I still haven't figured out how those get applied. Let's say I have three counties. And in of them siege speed is at 1 the rest at 0. Does my whole army get the bonus or only the levies from that province or what? O.o
Manual - as usual with paradox games - not helping. At all.
I believe it's only the levies of the provinces which have the tech that get the bonus.
like.. on creation of the levy unit it gets it's stats set based on the techs in the county.
the effect of being ahead is that the research speed for researching even further is slowed.
I think it's visible when you open the technology screen and hover over a province. it shows the various modifiers that are at work for all the different techs.
the techs really are very helpful though, even if you're just a little bit ahead it helps.
I wouldn't mind a more directed approach though because right now it's pretty random.
I don't mind that it takes decades to research something because that's how it should be but I'd like some more control.
the way research works btw is that you have a set chance each year to improve each tech.
focusing on a tech and sending in councillors improves said chance. events can also improve it.
if you are lucky you get +10% in that tech, and if you get to 100% you get a level up.
so in the best case scenario it's 10 years to level up a tech, though the chance is so low that it's extremely unlikely to happen ever.

Didn't look into it too much yet. I want to play at least 1 complete game without mods to get a feel for it.
I know there's a balance mod that adjusts traits, costs and relations bonuses/penalties, and one that adds lots of formable kingdoms, empires and decisions/plots/ambitions.
I also saw a WIP with increased map size (basically just more provinces but same part of the world) and another mod that adds a bigger part of africa and asia to the map.
so there's some very good progress already for how new the game is.
btw, from a paradox employee on the official forums:

For the record. The first non-cosmetic DLC will be something you guys on the forum came up with the idea for .
The benefits of selling popular DLC after release is that we can keep a FULL development team on ck2 indefinitely and we can add new big features for free as well...
The stuff that is on the plans for the first major patch is looking rather interesting when it comes to new content and features.
I hope to be able to talk more details about it soon.
so the future is looking bright for CK2!
oh and my map keeps getting crazier

I tried modding in a new plot but boy that shit aint' easy :/
Ya plots is something thats really missing - getting tired of only having the option to kill
my wife.
I already played this game way to much - but I find my self starting over again and again - this game is just to easy for me.
I tried starting with a scottish count, the one closest to England that have 96% difficulty.
Get together 100 coins and kill my father the duke (if your ruler is not kinslayer, then your not doing it right ). And then its just gathering claimers to your court and go crazy.
Sadly it seems like when you get enough gold and land, you can cruise the rest of the game.
And fighting wars against bigger nations than yourself, really seems like its your choice. And then fighting big wars is usually crap - because often you can´t get much more than a duchy and thats really not to teasing.
But im still loving it and just power gaming atm to find the best strategies and waiting for next patch. (hope they make it easier with a willing claimers screen).

Try getting permission from the pope. That'll allow you declare war with the aim of conquering the whole country.
Just had a great MP game. Everyone started in and around the British isles. I was in Wales and ended up as a vassal for England (human player, gives me lands all the time). We mainly focused on solidifying the island and a few campaigns into Spain.
The interesting part was that we ended up with 3 anti popes and church authority was at 0.0 and heretics were popping up all over the place like whack-a-mole. It was so rampant that eventually we gave up fighting the cathar heresy and joined them. Now the majority of the island is cathar, and we are in the middle of converting every county and character we can while fighting against the Muslims in Spain. One player is desperately trying to unite Ireland, another has usurped the Scottish throne, Brittany is constantly at war with France, and Norway is busy trying to remain Catholic.

Good times. :)
lol that sounds like great fun

Played around with the "Bella gerant alii" mod and it fixes some of the things I already had fixed myself like making assisinating more expensive and now there is actually attrition for the first 100 years.
But alot more changes and this mod also allows for playing all nations (muslim, pagan etc.)
There are two kinds of people I can't stand in this world. People who are intolerant of other people's cultures, and the Dutch.
As far as mods go, I used the CK2 Heraldy with bella gerant alli mod mentioned by Doh. I am not sure but all was working well so I took it that the CK2 Heraldy mod was just graphics. Anyone know?
And for those who are using the skidrow version, all you need to do is download skidrow update 2 and use those 3 files with the official 1.04 patch from the launcher.

I still get messed up Coat of Arms though? Any fix?

You need the updated dlcs. Skidrows' are broken and they aren't supplied with patch.
Alternatively you can just delete or not select them.

I have the 1.04 patch, the skidrow files from second patch. I removed the files from the "DLC" folder but all the CoA´s are still messed up.
NVM Managed to fix it by backing up the "landed_titles.txt" from release version and applying it in the 1.04 patched version.

Just do this:
This is the fix i used for the COA DLC go to Crusader kings directory, open the interface folder, find the coat_of_arms.txt, Scroll down to find the referense to dynasties.tga with the size
x = 16 y = 4
and change the size to
x = 51 y = 1
this should fix it.
What is the coat of arms problem? I want to know if I have the issue.
Just get the none Skidrow release with the DLC - there is no copy protection and you can dowload your updates from the launcher for that matter.
The coat of arms problem can be seen in Poland for one - if its weird white and smudgy then
you need to correct your file. After the fix you got red eagles or something like that.
Thanks Doh! your advice worked well. I noticed it on the king of England dynasty flag, its was smudged like you described the polish flag. Thanks for the fix.
Is the skidrow dlc problem just the coat of arms bug?

I don´t know, havent tried the skidrow release. But its an error in the patching, it was later corrected via steam. You should have a full working release.
Currently playing as the Queen of Castille (daddy died and let the daughter in charge, along with tons of pissed vassals). After some nice fighting, I've got about 2/3 of Spain and Portugal. Unfortunately the Sultan of Mauretania decided to show up on the continent, so I'm kinda of trying to survive now, while calling the Duke of Aquitanie and the King of France to take care of the arabs.
Careful diplomacy (read many marriages, as the bloody spanish are worse than the rabbits in the game) broughme t in the position that the vast armies of those two individuals are relatively at my disposal, with me just doing the cleaning.
Anyway to get the 1.04c patch to work? When running it it says cannot find crusader kings 2 installed. Or is there a program that will unpack the patch?
