|
 |
OK, so for preparation for glorious Skyrim I decided to but additional 2GB of RAm for my comp. It's C2D E8400@3.4Ghz (overclocked), Asus P5K motherboard and 2x1GB A-Data Extreme Performance 800+, which is now overclocked at 856 at 5-5-5-12 and 2.0V. This setup works flawlessly.
I bought additional two sticks of RAM, 2x1GB, the same exact type of A-Data RAM. Problem is my games crash when I use 3GB or 4GB of RAM. I swapped old RAM with new RAM and it works good in 2GB setup, so I think that new RAM is good. What do you thibk could be a problem? Is it possible that putting 3 or 4 sticks of RAM decreases it's ability to overclock and makes them unstable?

When populating all of your memory slots, you will probably have to increase your dimm voltage. And most likely will have to relax your timings. The first thing you should do is restart your overclocking procedure. Just keep in kind that you might not get as good an overclock as you have now. Best of luck and I sure hope that this helps!

Yea, I got this tip from other forum too. I made a reset of all overclocking, cpu/ram and seems it works fine. So, back to square one, ehh. Gonna use 3 sticks, maybe I'll get better result than with 4, got 32-bit system anyway.

But ... don't you need pairs to take advantage of dual-channel ?

keep in mind overclocking ram timings yields 0.x % framerate improvements in games. Save yourself a lot of headaches and play at the factory settings.

not to chime in late but keep mind too that more memory sticks will make it harder to overclock on your cpu

What the squirrel said.
I spent almost sixteen hours in total dialing in my system to 4.6GHz with all six slots populated (12GB). Whereas, I spent about four hours in a day when I only had three sticks in it.
Of course, now I've dialed the overclock back to 4.0GHz so I could get better timings with all 12GB.

Hi, sorry for my bad english, if anyway you run 32-bit system, the system don't accept more than 3gb of ram, so 3 sticks of ram is the max that 32 bit system use, the stick 4 is useless on 32 bit system, use win x 64 to use more than 3 gb of ram. If your ram is new, use 'memtest' on usb stick, and make a test of all your ram stck's, if encounter a problem test each chip separately. Many new ram sticks are bad. If all your sticks are ok make shure you have a corect power supply, bad noname power supply are most part of time the problem. hope can help you.
