yea but when you really really wanna have a great night ... I guess im speaking to the wrong crowd here ... Metal to me is as bad as picking my eardrum with a razor but I am totally into more relaxing sounds and of course when I hang out with friends its different ... I was just in a really good mood and this track is something I am really into while having fun or maybe a bit more to drink ... party
Nhiumewyn - is your name the combination of all those tracks (ok mill stop now)
Well, I'm also a big fan of instrumental music or post rock..
I'm 25 (for 3 more months atleast) and I don't like this at all. I'm a metal/rock/hardcore-fan, but I really hate the elitist-like attitude that Nium/Rohnrin has, that "this isn't music". Not that he in any way "represents" such fans, but it certainly doesn't help.

Reading from your post it appears that I wasn't the first to held such an opinion here, nevertheless, I believe that the mistake is that most people want to categorize everything by groups, I do not represent any group of musical fans not I ever tried to. Also, I for instance hate hardcore and most types of rock, but I recognize their musical merits, there is a huge between the Metal genres that I usually listen to and genres such as hardcore and ska, when it comes to rap and hip hop, I really can't get around to consider it music, hip hop, for me, if anything, is an art of vocal expression, there are many types of music that I personally dislike, most mainstream commercial music for example, and that's what they are, music that I dislike, but the post that I previously made was concerning solely rap and hip hop and my opinion towards it.
Seriously, how old are you people? What do you listen to for fun (party)
If it has to include rap, then I'd prefer this

I see, I myself considered this to be noise, but not all hip hop or rap. This particular "song" just sucks imho

Metal to me is just as bad as the shit you posted bxrdj
I only turned 26 last week and "my generation" here in NL is mostly into hardstyle and the likes; some hardcore but not worse (lolspeedcore), but not dance or trance either. That's for parties only though and I kind of grew out of that (and fuck knows I've done my share ). During my mid-teens all the hip shit was aweful stuff like the Spice Girls or Vengaboys, none of my classmates liked any of that
Personally, I dislike most "pop" music. I listen to a wide variety of genres though; things like Queen and Eagles are definitely some of my favourites, but so is Adele..or UB40 (well, most of their stuff ). As long as it's got either a very strong melody and rhythm or a ridiculously good voice it's fine by me. Kinda has to match though, which is why metal doesn't appeal to me; I can appreciate the skill it takes to do what they do with their voice, I just don't find it appealing. Funny thing is that the actual music is perfectly fine to me, quite brilliant in some cases even; it's just that the "singing" often ruins it for me :/
On a small sidenote, I'm sure it's nothing short of blasphemy for you metal lovers, but something like Within Temptation (Dutch pride, fuck yea o/) is more appealing to me. It's obviously more commercially oriented, but to me it just works much better together.
Same goes for that stuff you posted. Just doesn't work together for me

Your musical taste, like you said, circles strongly around the vocal part of music, which is the least irrelevant part for me, music for me has always been solely it's instrumental foundation, my wife for example, loves Adele, but, I quite honestly, cannot find anything in her music that I find enjoying or stimulating to listen to.
I grew up listening mostly to euro dance type stuff, then switched to old metal & rock during highschool, and now I primarily listen anything electronic. From Kraftwerk, Daft Punk to Fatboy Slim, Chemical Brothers, Prodigy to Armin Van Buuren, Tiesto to Showtek, Headhunterz to Skillex and all in between.
Actually I like anything that has a good beat, even pop, but when I'm at home it's mostly trance.
I don't particularly like bxrdjs tune, but I found if I listen to anything long enough I start to enjoy it, so I don't judge other people on their music taste
Here we go again... Sorry, bxrdj, but that's just crap.
Classic electronic music is quite cool in my opinion, but not these idiotic subgenres that have been popping up lately. Believe it or not, I used to listen to some rap years ago, but I can't stand it anymore. I mean, there is some that isn't bad (Lupe Fiasco had a really nice style at his debut, if I remember right), but I agree that it isn't music. I for one, listen mostly to metal now, but I also really love orchestral music, instrumental music, folk music (which I actually always loved) and of course soundtracks. I kind of listen to any music now as long as it's actual music and it's good and I don't even consider myself a metalhead or whatever anymore. I'm still keeping my beloved hair though.
Also, I keep seeing this hate for metal, but some people don't even want to give it a chance. It has so many subgenres and styles that I really refuse to believe somebody who does this hate the metal thing, wouldn't actually like some metal.
And oh yeah, the parties thing... I hate parties and I don't see how the crap people listen to today is so much better than the real music for parties. Classic rock I think is pretty much the best music for such occasions.
As for Within Temptation, Werelds, they have turned into complete shit. I was actually quite a fan of them and I still like their early albums, but for me the band stopped existing when they started with the commercial crap. Lacuna Coil, on the other hand is still a great band as far as I know (never listened much to them), similar to what Within Temptation used to be.
Here's a piece of metal, a piece of one of the best albums ever made, a piece of art:
I honestly can't understand how you can even not like this, let alone hate it. I must say that listening to this again, metal is the best music when it comes to lyrics also. That song especially is just pure poetry. Euphoreon is quite a new band which also amazed me in terms of lyrics.

@ DR: I know, especially the last one was pretty terrible. What you linked there is the kind of metal I like - apart from the stuff around the 7 minute mark. That really just doesn't sound good to me, the voice doesn't match the music
I don't care about sub genres btw because that's something people do to define what they like, which is nonsense since a good band or artist does not fit just one box. I don't like any one genre either, I just like what I like :/
@ Nhiumewyn: my musical taste revolves around synergy, not vocals. At least 50% of my music collection is purely or mostly instrumental stuff. The vocals have to fit the music and vice versa. And to me, there's a lot of metal where the two just don't match; like I said, I love the music, but often hate the vocals.
On the other hand, I can appreciate a strong vocal as much as I appreciate a guitar solo. I don't really consider them two separate parts of music, they either complement each other perfectly or one should leave either of them out (or replace it) - in fact, vocals are as much an instrument as a guitar or piano in my opinion.
The quality of popular music has gone downhill in the last decade, it's a fact, less than 20 years ago Nirvana were the commercial music, now we have Kesha
Thankfully it's still possible to find great "underground" artists/bands away from the stage lights, even in this day and age. They're well hidden, but they're there.

It's a very sad reflection on society that Rihanna, Adele and Eminem make millions of dollars and geniuses artists like Swallow the Sun, Equilibrium, Peste Noire and Summoning barely pay of their bills.

Nothing wrong with Adele
Perhaps not, I have just grown to hate her due my wife's and all my female friends constant obsession with her music.
Still, regardless of that, the talent and musical maturity that go into any of Summoning's or Equilibrium songs is light years away from any popular artist that I've ever listened to.
How old are you people?! Seriously, not one person likes this ... wow!
GET OFF MY LAWN!!!
age has nothing to do with it, why do the younger generation make general stereotypes about that older people cant like newer music? when I was 18 rap wasn't what I considered good music..much less this 'rap techno with attitude' stuff.
to me there is a fine line of "music with attitude" and "music made with the sole intent of trying to portray attitude" this is the latter. The difference between "Listen to this its badass" and "Listen to this I'M badass!"
I cant hear it without picturing in my head some 18-21 year old, trying to show hes a bit more badass than he is, making up for his lack of attitude by playing music that fills that gap for others to hear and notice.
Like him showing up to a party, pants around his ass, holding his crotch and doing the pimp walk, filled with the false persona of confidence listening to this gives him.

Nope, plenty of good recent music out there imo. I consider Adele to be a very talented singer. I like her and that, my hard-to-pronounce-named friend, is the point. Music is subjective. We can't state that one artist, or genre, is better than another, like our opinion is an authoritative fact.
That's exactly it, singing and music, to me, are two very distinct art mediums, yes, they crossover quite frequently, but they are very different in how they make me experience music, I'm not saying I categorically dislike singing, I like it, but more in an abstract sense, I like a powerful voice conveying a powerful emotion or state of mind, not reciting an idea, if you know what I mean.
Also, of course, musical taste is subjective, but there are some criteria to distinguish quality, well written music from poorly written music, taste only tells you what you subjectively appreciate, and that's what I've been discussing in this thread, that for me, rap/hip-hop doesn't match any of the criteria that I subjectively find enjoyable in music.
Seriously ... bunch of dirty, hairy dudes screaming some crap over the worst guitar sounds imaginable stuck on moshpits and satanic crap ... am I missing something?
I'm not into metal either, but that's some serious idiocy right there. I had no idea there are still people around who buy into this "metal is satanic" stupidity.

Yeah, if something is satanic, it's automatically cool, not crap. Take salad, for instance. Boring as shit and no real man really likes to eat it. But satanic salad will eat you if you aren't quick and eat it first.

tbh, the only exposure to metal I have is while searching through releases on rlslog or sceper ... and from what I see posted there ... generally pretty damn morbid.
Again, considering that nobody here liked the original song posted, this is just an opinion and not bashing in any way. I like beats and futuristic, modern technology.
