PhysX on CPU, that's probably why.
(Actually do they use PhysX?)

Yeah, i had one here at work and they tend to get really hot. The cooler is rubbish basically. The guy that now has that 8800gt bought a Accelero L2 cooler and the temperatures dropped dramatically.

its 4yo card. It can burn to hell. I hope it will surviver one year more. Then, when new consoles will come out, I will play on my pc again

fuckit wrote: | well i'm definitely glad i pirated this first, wonderful little game, the physics though are really the weak point, solving some of the puzzles comes down to pure luck and to add insult to injury the extra protoplasm stuff dissolves into fat air if you take too long to figure out the puzzles which are very much experiment, observe result, repeat, they're not the sort that lend themselves to being solved quickly so it's a fairly annoying and stupid thing to do.
the health or... lack thereof system also annoys the living crap out of me too, it's 2 hits and you're dead no matter how long you were touched or by how much, at least you can regain it if you sit there and waste time a few moments though but when health is actually a concern you'll die anyway if you try to stall to regain it for the most part.
if the physics weren't so derpy and random - especially for the extra puzzles for protoplasm - i probably would play this a second time, maybe after a few patches it'll be as enjoyable as it has potential to be and not so frustrating and for reasons largely beyond your control.
@ Ure, skidrow release saves perfectly fine, as stated above. |
Never had any of the problems you mention. Physics seems consistent to me. The protoplasm disappears if you suck it into your tank and then die so you wouldn't have a chance to collect infinite amounts of it. At least for me it did.
Great game so far. Puzzles are getting harder and harder, especially with those attacking lava fluros or whatever they are called.

yeah the 8800 are good for roasting marshmellows, yum.
i'm not saying it's a bad game, just not quite right for me is all and computerized physics simulations are always a bit iffy and random, also you can easily crash the game by dropping tons of fluros seeds at once and overloading the physics processing but it takes enough going on that it shouldn't be a problem if you don't go overboard.

It's actually done, I can't understand how it would work but apparently the heat process does something, only works on certain cards though and I would never really use it myself but there's a lot of posts and tutorials on it.

yeah i know, i was amazed when i found out initially because apparently xbox360s self destruct the same way and can be baked to be fixed.
it was so difficult to resist asking if he meant baking with the 8800 though, i used to be cursed with one of those too and it will ruin any good cooling system i've seen with the amount of heat it craps out.

so i've been playing this a bit more and i've got to say that some of my criticisms seem a bit less valid now, i was playing before under the notion that you play the levels through in a linear fashion and once you've passed one it's locked off and you're done with it, i now see that the game is actually designed around each puzzle room being a bit more modular in that you'll probably have to solve one to afford an upgrade which allows you to solve another, in other words you're meant to revisit most of the game to see what more you can reach at that point due to having spent more protoplasm.
it makes some of the puzzles i eventually gave up on reaching the protoplasm and mentally discarded as obtuse and overly frustrating make a slight bit more sense, you're not meant to be able to reach every goal or cloud of protoplasm initially, being stubborn and not giving up on reaching a particular chunk of the stuff was a huge oversight on my part because of assumptions about how the progression through the levels worked.

Was proud owner of a baked EVGA 9800GTX+.
I was shocked firstly to HEAR about this method and, secondly, I was even more shocked to actually see it work after I baked it in my oven.

Another believer here. Baked my 8800GTS 4 times. Though it only lasted a few days after the last time so I replaced it with a Radeon 2600XT.

Okay, too me a while, because I was often busy IRL nowadays, but I finished Vessel and I must say this game is quite underrated. I really enjoyed it, every moment. Loved the audio composition (both, BGM and SFX), loved the visual part of the game (artwork/animation) and the gameplay itself of course. While most of the puzzles had only one solution and were easy, there is some of them that will make you scratch your head and there a different approach for figuring out the solution/path.
In short: it definitely worth the money. All of them.
