YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!! Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Quote:

Time seems to pass abnormally fast when you’re working hard on a project and certainly this has been the case in March for us. But hey, thanks to the leap day we got at least one extra working day! We are certainly now starting to feel the pressure of the fast approaching release date which on one hand feels a really joyful moment but at the same time it’s a bit frightening because we have to stop polishing and adding cool stuff to the game we have learned to love so much. Legend of Grimrock is certainly a lot more personal project to us than other games we have worked on in the past and therefore it’s a bit sad to finally let our baby go out to the big world.

Therefore we have worked extra hard this week and nailed a lot of bugs, including two crash bugs near the end of the game – a big thank you to our beta testers who have been relentlessly playing the game. Apart from fixing bugs we have also polished various aspects of the game. For example, we completely reworked the save game dialog so that it now shows information such as characters and their levels, play time and the current dungeon and level you’re playing in. In bigger news we have implemented 40 achievements, some of them pretty challenging to unlock. Olli has almost but finalized the remaining animations so his animation work for LoG is now pretty much complete unless our testers still find something to fix. Juho is also gradually moving on from the game to work on the launch trailer. Antti and me, we have been juggling with various miscellaneous tasks that just have to be done.

We know you’re all anxious to hear about the release plans and as you probably already saw in the big poster above, we’re finally able to tell you something concrete: The PC version of Legend of Grimrock will be released in early April and we are going to start preorders a few weeks before launch. That said, we have signed NDAs so we are not allowed to tell the exact date and distribution platforms just yet but rest assured that everything is now in good hands.

To celebrate this Antti and Juho have kindly setup a forum. Discussions should certainly be a lot easier there than in the blog comments.

So we’re not done just yet but close! So, what’s up next? There’s still a few bugs to fix and testers are still finding stuff to polish. We are also going to do the long overdue site migration to a more powerful server with more bandwidth over the next two weeks. Biggest of all we are going to freeze the code and content pretty soon, build our first release candidate and start the final round of testing. We hope to get the RC out of the oven to testers sometime next week. And before you ask, beta testing is still closed so no need to apply for beta testing, thank you

So that’s it, see you on the forums!

Wonder how much they'll ask for it. 15-20E is my limit - depends how many hours I can sink into it. On the other hand if D3 will be released in April I don't see myself forking any money for LoG Sad

I'm actually really annoyed about this "weekend only!" thing for the Krater preorder Sad I don't get paid until next week and €10 for that, as opposed to €21 usual price, is just... wow Sad

For Krater, yes. Apparently it goes back to full price on Monday.

VAT stands for Value Added Tax. Most countries in Europe use it, but not ALL have it at the same rate. But publishers, like EA, Ubisoft, Activision, just calculate it like every country in EU has 30% or something VAT, while in reality a lot have sub 20%. It's an excuse for them to leech money.

Aye and, luckily, Norway is one of those countries that doesn't have VAT -- which let me snag Krater (<3 lolozaur <3) for €7.99 ^_^

It's called TVA in our country. Smile

Oh, and what was it specifically that I meant by the game being “almost done”? Well, we’re no longer in beta, baby! On wednesday, we built the RC1, or release candidate 1, version of the game.

Don´t want to whine before even playing the game, but just found a FAQ talking about
it will take about 15+ hours to complete. Hope they are starting on a second game already, because thats a weekend.

I still remember walking around the dungeons of the first Eye of the beholder, with those scary ass spiders and the even scarrier, fiddly small, near invisible buttons on the gazillion grey bland walls, for the umpteen hidden door nightmare - hell that didnt take 15+ hours, that took an childhood!

There are two kinds of people I can't stand in this world. People who are intolerant of other people's cultures, and the Dutch.

Wait, what happened to release candidate 2? Well, we have been busy working day and night and we actually did two releases this week. The latest build or “RC3″ as we like to call it has now been sent to testers and if any issues are not found in the next couple of days this will be the gold build! Fingers crossed!

So, what has happened this week? Juho has been working on the trailer and it’s progressing well. Next week we’ll hand it over to Stakula, our man in charge of music production. Besides starring in a super secret video, Antti has been working on the installer and he has also been making so many builds this week that we lost count. I actually had to do a dubious deal with Antti, saying something along the lines of “if we have to do yet another new build before releasing the game, I owe Antti a beer, not just any kind of beer but some really nice imported beer.” Antti actually forced me to write this down on paper with my signature on it and he stored the paper somewhere in a secure place.

Aaanyway, back to the report. Olli has been doing paperwork for the launch and it now seems that things are finally nearing completion on that front. He would much prefer to work on animations but someone got to do the dirty work! Me, I’ve been fixing the remaining issues with the game and improving game balance and playtesting. Nothing big but things like adjusting the damage of spells and such.

Oh, oh, and we have a game manual now and some extra goodies too that we’re going to ship with the game. I don’t want to reveal what they are but it’s something you can print and it looks gorgeous

Some people have been asking about the key art made by Juho some time ago. There’s no reason to hold it back, so here you go, behold the magnificent almost default party (one of the characters have been exchanged, can you guess who?).

Ok, that’s enough rambling for now. Stay tuned for next week!

Yay!! Still no word on STEAM or a publisher? $10 to $20 is my prediction. If it makes a profit then I hope we get an improved sequel.

It's self-published, and it will be on Steam. It's been in the registry for a week or two.

Well, this is a self-funded game, so if it doesn't make a profit, there probably wouldn't be a sequel.
