It all looked good until they started with the cinematic approach and the need to make it sexier and more "dramatic" Laughing, but I guess it was inevitable. Looks promising though Smile

Yes, I'm always afraid nowadays, when they use the words "dramatic", "awesome" and "action" words.
But that base is surely looking outstanding.
It might be good. We shall see.

Gimme!

*EDIT*
Surprisingly, I have not the slightest problem with those cinematic elements because I see nothing wrong with it in an XCOM game. I mean, does it really harm the gameplay when you made your moves / end your turn and you gotta see everything happen in a cinematic way? I don't think so. It may even add alot more tension when, for example, your derp rookie is shooting like an asshole Laughing

To me, it really looks promising. I also like what they did to the Geoscape part.

Or do you guys prefer the other XCOM game. You know exactly which one I mean! *poke* The Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway clone with LSD trip offspring aliens as enemies

No, you don't!

As far as I can tell the interface doesn't allow for more than one base.

Hm, that would actually suck.

We already knew it but the PC version will be indeed different:

Quote:
“The idea is that there is the ability for modability,” said Solomon. It won’t be anything that we’re committing to for release, but it’s very very easy using Unreal titles. I write almost all my game code in the scripts, and that’s very easy to give to people.”

The Civilization games have strong modding scenes. With the release of Civ 5, the devs included a built in map creator to make it easier for fans to make their own campaigns. “We have a great legacy of that at Firaxis,” Solomon added. “Of course that’s what we want. We want to make a distinct experience for the different platforms.”

The separate PC UI will be part of that. The XCOM: Enemy Unknown screenshots that have been released so far have shown lots of Xbox controller command prompts, we asked if the PC build would use a similar system.

“No, no, no. Nooo. Oh man, no. I wouldn’t do that to you, are you kidding me? No,” he said. That’s six noes there, folks.

“We have a team that’s doing the PC UI, and there are some elements where it can make sense to use the base, like when we have menus and things like that, but our tactical UI is a standalone PC tactical UI.”

“And so we have a PC tactical UI that we’re working on that is distinct, because obviously mouse driven with a tactical game – being able to select objects of interest – as opposed to a gamepad, where you’re cycling through objects of interest. No, no, we definitely have PC and we plan and we have UI that’s unique.”

Nice Smile

you’ll need to keep them happy by occasionally bending your plans to their selfish desires. Selfish desires such as “Please launch some satellites over our country, to keep an eye out for aliens here,” and “Please stop the aliens from killing us all.”

Looks like I was right, just one base. And I dare say that due to the design of the base it'd be hard but not impossible to get a "Defend Base" mission, so it's probably been cut out as well.
If these assumptions are correct I'm disappointed.

Yep it's been confirmed
Quote:
Jake Solomon: Yes. [World-weary expression]. Yes. Are you looking for ammunition, Alec? [laughs] Yeah, you only have the one base, and then as you saw there in the hanger, you can expand your Interceptors and Satellites to other hangar bases on the other continents. So depending on what continent you choose to start the game – like, ‘I want to start in Europe because of bonus x,y,z’ – then as the game plays on you can then expand your satellite coverage to other continents which have other bonuses, and you can also expand your jets into hangar bases on those continents.

Also no base defend missions, I am disappoint.
