I know that this is NOT the right topic but search does not work and I'm sure WoW topic is somewhere beyong 5th page by now
http://us.battle.net/wow/en/services/scroll-of-resurrection/
Free level 80
Free upgrade to Cataclysm ( I can be upgraded even from burning crusade)
Free 7 days of game time
AND FREE Realm transfer and Faction Change
World of Warcraft must be losing people at even faster rate then before to introduce something like this.

Looks like Blizz might be wanting to compete with the appeal of the upcoming Guild Wars 2. Some people play WoW for the questing, others want PvP, it certainly makes sense to offer a shortcut to pure PvP by jumping to lv80 -- just like GW/GW2 offer you the choice to jump straight to PvP levels rather than questing.

Doubtful. In WoW it's not just about the level, you still have to grind gear. If they wanted to compete with GW2, they could just make public PvP server (I heard they used to run some for tournaments) where you get your max level geared character. But they will bever do that, because they want eople to grind and waste their time on useless things.

Nope. They never offered free upgrade to Cata or free realm transfer+faction change or a level 80
And I kinda hope, GW2, will bring some excitment to the MMO community. WoW is 7yr old game with no future at all. But I am looking forward to GW2!

yeah there's that too, a toon at cap isn't really worth jack shit if you can't scrounge up gear decent enough for AT LEAST entry level TBC raids, last i checked anyway.

fine, technically you have a point on the free cata upgrade, or would have except well.... the expansion's been out less than 6 months (guessing, might be wrong) and typically any MMO bundles in expansions into their starter pack schtick without a price bump as well usually.
if you really want to prove your point though, find us the link for those who only want vanilla WoW, no TBC, no WoTLK and no Cata, then i'll concede gladly.
realm change.... desperation, i smell it if you're serious about hinging your point on something like that.

The expansion has been out for over 2 years, that's why players are leaving.
Note : previously Blizzard would only offer free game time (with temporary access to current content) but nothing else.
The new deal offers a LOT more than before, and I think it's a really good deal. It makes it much easier for old players to come back and join friends. It removes any barrier you may have to play with your friends. Don't need to buy any expansion, don't have to worry about the realm OR faction you're playing at.
And you even get a free level boost.
It's a good move by Blizz.
(I don't agree with the comments about Blizzard doing it out of desperation tho.)

It's a great offer for anyone wanting to go back to WoW. |
so you managed to buy vanilla WoW with no expansions included?
seriously, that's the part i was getting at, you can't count including expansions as adding value because frankly it's impossible to buy a copy that doesn't include them.
it's like buying a box to ship something in and paying $0.50 extra for them to pump the box full of air first, a pointless charade that they hope you don't scrutinize.

Note : Not 2 years, one year, I made a oops.
Currently if you buy WoW you get WoW + the first expansion. The second and third expansions are separate.
You can easily buy the game without getting them.

Prove it? Go look at the Blizzard store, or at any B.net account.
As for Cata, it was in 2 parts. One was a huge patch which changed the entire old world ("Vanilla"), the second part is the actual expansion.
If you don't have the expansion you still have access to the new Vanilla, but you don't have access to the new races, the new areas (level 80+ areas), and a few features that came with the expansion.
It basically gave a new level 1-60, and with BC free you get access to 60-70 too. But 70-80 (Lich King) and 80-85 (Cata) are still sold separately.

lol cata was in 2 patches, where the fuck did you get such info?
On releasedate (7 dec 2010) it wasn't just the world change, seven new dungeons and four new raids where added, Archaeology, skills where redone and so on.
So bullshit with the 2 parts, Cata is now 1 year and 4 months old. Period.

You completely misunderstood what I said.
I said that Cata was 2 parts : One for everyone (didn't matter if you bought the expansion, you still had access to the new versions of old zones) and one for people who bought the expansions (what you listed).
I didn't say the content was available in 2 patches, I said not everyone had access to all of the content, depending on if they bought the expansions or not.

i avoided Cata like the console faggot plague it is, when the first stage patch hit and fucked talents up the ass along with my skills, that was the last day i considered it a game and i promptly cancelled my subscription and never looked back.
still have the account if anyone wants to buy it by the way.

"despererate" "try to compete with gw2" "losing consumers"
you guys make me laugh everytime when it comes to wow bash nonsense.
(and i cancelled my subscribtion some time ago, just to make that clear).
But lets have some fun.
Wow currently has 10.2 million active subscribers (subscriptions ?)
GW2 wont come close to that. And even IF it would, i HIGHLY doubt the big chunk would come from WoW playerbase. I dont see many WoW players leave one fantasy mmo for another one.
And yeah i know, gw2 is the second coming blablabla ,
you know what, i heard that MANY times in the last couple years, be it from lotro,WAR, swtor, Aion, tabula rasa and i forgot so many more.
each time its "oh this will KILL wow and this will be SO GOOD and every single time it turned out .... nope ... it didnt and it wasnt.
Im sorry guys, but from the looks of it now, the only MMO that could "kill" wow, is the next MMO from Blizzard.
and dont flame on me now, i WISH there would be another mmo that could hook me, but sadly, there wont be for another 2-4 years it seems.
Thankfully we have d3

GW2 will be a decent MMO, no question. But I don't get why everything and always has to kill WoW/CoD

agree with sin but without :
Wow currently has 10.2 million active subscribers (subscriptions ?)
is has ~5/4 milions regular subscribers, rest are from china or whatever, and they pay different. not really sure how, but blizzard dont get the same $ value from them.
if anyone knows more about china $, i would be happy to hear.
"issue" with gw2 is that it does not have a monthly sub, so is a less threat to wow vs swtor let's say. (if swtor was worth more than a penny )
you purchased swtor, you had to chose, pay monthly for wow, or swtor ?
you purchase gw2, wth, you can continue to pay for wow, not really a huge issue. unless gw is really that good, and you will not ever enter wow again.

i don't think that's directed at me and rightly so but, who really thinks GW2 is going to be even nearly good enough to compete with WoW?
honestly, it seems a bit derpy, like a fairly well done clone that's learned a few lessons from it's predecessor, but... i don't know, this whole classless trend... it's not for the better, it's only so that you can be more flexible with less, plainly put it's a crutch for developers who don't think they can steal enough players to support holy trinity type groups.
in all honesty, all i have to say about GW2 is.... it seems really forced, like they're trying to twist everyone's arm on youtube and gaming sites to media blitz it and everyone's trying to seem interested but... you can't sell a game to the press members only i guess and it looks really horrible of a game, it's a hell of a bet that players will join in too and frankly i rather doubt it's going to be as much as they're betting on.
