Pretty sure you do as well garus Smile

Almost every country has "Watching & Listening" taxes for Radio/TV, it's just that it was privatised here a long, long time ago.

I don't have any input to my tv at all (apart from 360/ps3/dvd player) and I don't miss it at all! no poxy adverts or crappy X-factor nonsense (TV in my opinion is there to make me laugh and educate me, not to turn my brain to mush). Everything I want to watch I download.

So no TV license or rip off fees to Cable companies.

IIRC, you're English aren't you mate? See, the worst thing about the TV licensing stuff; you're liable if you own ANY device *capable* of receiving TV signals. Even if you don't watch TV, ever, and just use it for playing games -- or even if you just own a PC and a net connection -- you're liable for the licensing fee and it's a hefty fine if you're caught without one.

Disgusting.

No we aren't.

If you own a device capable of receiving and displaying over the air broadcasts then yes, you must pay. However, a PC is not capable of this nor is a monitor. Having internet is not a qualifier. If you watch the bbc online streams you are liable for it though.

So I don't pay it. Don't have a TV. Nor do I ever watch BBC streams.

What's this "we" business? As much as the UK is up America's arse, the last time I checked - we weren't giving free citizenship medals to Americans Razz

http://www.tvlicensing.co.uk/check-if-you-need-one/topics/technology--devices-and-online-top8/?WT.ac=banner_lo2_check

As for the whole "if you're not watching TV as it's being shown, then you're not liable" claim of theirs; it's bullshit. I never used to watch TV broadcasts, instead watched movies/games and used downloaded media -- yet their enforcement officer didn't take that as fact and I was still forced to pay the license.

Quote:

In all cases, we may need a couple of minutes of your time
As it is our duty to ensure that everyone in the UK who needs a licence has one, we may visit your address to check that no licence is required. It's unfortunately necessary to do this, as when we make contact on these visits, almost one in five people are found to need a TV Licence. Please be assured that this is a routine visit, and will take no more than a few minutes. If we find during the visit that you do in fact need a licence, you'll need to pay the full licence fee, and you could risk prosecution and a fine of up to £1,000.

^^ They pull that shit when they turn up at the door.

"You've got a TV? Then you're liable for a license"
"I don't watch TV, I only watch DVDs/VHS and play games"
"You can't prove that, you have an antenna in your house"

et al. Any device capable of receiving TV broadcasts gets shoehorned into the "you do need a license" bullshit.

Same here in Croatia, as long as your own any form of TV or radio (even car radio) you need to pay the license fee. I'm not sure if they count PCs yet.

You were conned into buying a licence then. Don't believe anything that comes from the TV licensing website or from the douches that knock on your door.

Tell them to fuck off and slam the door in their face, that's what I do when they knock on my door. They have no power whatsoever. Detection equipment doesn't exist. They use scare tactics to get people to pay.

Wow! I never thought it was possible! A fee that we don't have to pay here in Brazil: TV License. Anyone can own a tv set and watch public tv without paying fees here. Obviously public channels suck anyway.

Not in USA either. Never heard of this. Wow! So I guess USA aint so bad at all! I can own as many tvs and no license fee exists. I just disconnected my DirecTV and now use a HD Antenna to receive the public stations and subscribe to netflix. Rest I just watch from downloads. No more TV bill.

I can't remember the last time I turned on the television honestly....

70% bullshit ads.
30% actual content.

Or I can just grab a show and watch it without interruption (or having to skip forward). Hmm...which shall I choose? Razz

That said you all are lucky in Europe. Here, there's usually only ONE provider in an area that gives access to cable/high speed net. So much for the US anti-monopoly laws...

Ive worked in the inner circle of the biggest internet company in Denmark and at one point my departments boss, was called upon making up for a bad year - so we came up with an tv encryption fee, because most direct competitors had one, we could as well was the reasonin. Well we were tv-ip, so we didnt encrypt - that didnt stop the fee tho Laughing

And ya in Denmark its normal one pays about 20% of subscription fee to be able to record Embarassed
