i came across that sometimes they take the size in mb...lets say 80000mb and sell it as an 80gig hd...which is wrong of course. (80000mb / 1024 = 78.125gb)
so in your case 250000mb / 1024 = 244.140625
uh...didn't work for you Confused

HDD companies count like this
1 Gigabyte =
1000 MegaBytes
1=Megabytes
1000 Kilobytes

PC counts
1 Gigabyte=
1024 MegaBytes

1 Megabyte=
1024 Kilobyte

Want to know how much space youll get?
Divide by 1024 thee times and multiply by 1000 000 000

Because you clearly didnt read the manual
(1024^3)=1073741824

So do (250/1073741824)x1 000 000 000

You can count that you get around 7-8 percent less of space than advertised.

Most NEW drives nowadays come out advertsed as EG 200 Gig when they are actually eg.218 Gig so that when formatted, it shows as 200 Gig.

Older HD's are not lying when they tell you the size.

Incorrect.

Your drive is okay, I've lost 21gb on each of my sata 300gb drives. That's quite normal.
