I've had a Hanns-G 27.5" monitor for roughly 3 years. About 6 months back it started taking a while for it to display an image via HDMI. The length of time it took varied. Sometimes 10 seconds, sometimes 10 minutes. It would also occasionally blink on and off during gaming. I figured that it couldn't be the cable, if it was it would never display an image at all, right?

Well, a few days ago I decided I'd had enough of the shenanigans and ordered this monitor.

It comes in today, I hook it up using the new included HDMI cable. Works beautifully.

I decided to use the old HDMI cable that was hooking up my PC to hook up my PS3 instead. Funnily enough, the monitor refused to display the HDMI 2 input for my PS3.

Long story short, turns out the cable was the fucking culprit this whole time, and I blew $330 on a downgraded monitor (16:9 and max 1920x1080 instead of my OLD 16:10 max 1920x1200), for no fucking reason.

So angry right now. And I'm too lazy to return the fucking thing (plus i'd get screwed on shipping and a 15% restock fee). Sad Evil or Very Mad

Sell it as brand new on ebay Very Happy

If I'm too lazy to return it that means I'm WAY too fucking lazy to deal with the hassles of E-Bay. Never sold anything on there before, only bought. I'm leery of people screwing me out of my money - I can do that myself! Very Happy

No I didn't.

VGA cables, when bad, go blurry/smeared image or display no image at all.

HDMI is digital, so 1's , 0's , on/off.

I "thought" (there was my mistake right there, trying to use logic to solve a problem ), that if an HDMI cable were bad it would display no image at all.

The fact that the old monitor EVENTUALLY displayed an image (after a random delay of 10 secs - 10 minutes) to me, meant the cable couldn't be bad.

Shows what I know. Sad

And now this motherfucker has a single dead (black) pixel about an inch off the right side in the upper right quadrant.

Seemingly harmless at first...but now that I know it's there I can't take my fucking eyes off of it. RAGE! Sad

Yea, I know it's under warranty. It's simply the hassle of having to ship large items back that I don't like. My philosophy: what good is a warranty when they know all they've sold you is a warrantied piece of shit?

i always had good experience with ebay (or rather its equivalent here in switzerland, "ricardo", with selling my old computer parts. Everytime upgrade my pc (which i usually do gradually), i sell the replaced stuff on there and usually get at least 50% of the original value back hehe. Not kidding.

its worth it.
