i wish that someone do a remake of it, something a bit like Kings of Honor and this one, would be an epic game.
and buyed also "Alpha Centauri", and i was surprised how epicaly good this game is! it fucks in the butt deeply and with blood, the civ 5.
diplomacy is on the top of the games i've played; it's a deep game in every way and loved the philosophy within the game. |

1 and 2 are still amazing.

Thief 2 is out now... finally there's some place to download that game that I somehow completely missed back in the days.

The announcement is, as expected, that they'll start selling some more new games (but strictly with the same conditions as the old games: no DRM, bonus goodies, fair pricing, etc). Looks like Legend of Grimrock will be one of the first ones on offer. And of course, they'll continue with the classic re-releases. Sounds like the best of both worlds, to me.
Correcting people since 2007 even if they're not wrong.

Quote: |
Bigger. Fresher. Newer. See what's new on GOG.com
For the last four days we’ve been promising you the Bigger, Newer, and Fresher version of GOG, not only the website, but the service and the philosophy of game distribution as well. However, there’s much more to today’s GOG.com than just three words.
Bigger.
Year after year we’re getting bigger and so our service needs to adjust. Bigger means more users, and therefore more website features, more social interaction, more customer love. Bigger means AAA new and newer titles and more partners--and especially developers!--signed every month. Bigger means a mix of the classic titles that you’ve come to know and love from GOG.com and newer with the kind of great gameplay that makes them feel like instant classics.
Fresher
GOG.com does not need a brand-new start. We’re doing great and hundreds of thousands of you agree that the road we’ve taken is the right one for the industry to follow. However, spring is nearby, and a little cleaning to spruce up the place is never amiss. Fresher GOG.com means changes to the website layout, which now offers a more modern look; it also means we’re featuring our Facebook, Twitter, and Google Plus accounts at the footer of every page and more social integration overall. Fresher means more of the features you want. The My Account page now has a built-in search feature, new organization options for the games library, and the website is no longer the only way to deliver notifications to gamers. We’re offering the new, faster than ever GOG.com downloader, which integrates support for downloading game patches, goodies, and notifications to keep GOG users up to date on changes to games they have purchased, replies to forum threads, or PMs.
Newer
Don’t worry, no matter how new we’re getting, GOG.com will always stick to our three core values: No DRM, Fair Pricing, and Love for our GOG-ers. Newer means simply newer games, whether they’re big, recognized names, indie games, day-one releases, or pre-orders. Pre-order for Legend of Grimrock for only $11.99 today, or pick up Trine and The Whispered World right now; Spacechem, Machinarium, and Darwinia are coming soon. We have more than 20 great indie and newer games signed on GOG.com that will be showing up in the next few months.. These games lead the way on our the transition from Good Old Games to simply GOG.com. It doesn’t matter what G, O, and G stand for, Gee Oh Gee dot com stands for high-quality, DRM-free gaming, each week with bigger and newer games.
Future
As the world changes, so are we, and this is only the beginning. As always, we rely heavily on user opinions and wishes. A new revamped Community Wishlist now allows users to suggest, vote, and discuss games and site features they'd love to see on GOG.com. You make all of this possible. Thank you and stay tuned for more amazing in coming days, weeks, months, and years to come.

Indie games on GOG. Nice. So the indie devs won't have to lose too much money in a bad publishing deal.

Varies, usually the files are unprotected but now and again they do use cracked executables for certain titles if there's no other alternative, similarly DOSBox is used if there's no alternative to run the game on modern hardware, or so I've understood it.
(Finding and working with the source code of older games might be pretty difficult.)

It certainly is, especially if you appreciate your account and the money you've invested in it, which is why you'd also have verified your email address, and more recently, activated Steamguard
A hacked account means somebody has your password still, how many people do you think use different passwords to their Steam accounts and email inbox's? There are still a shit load of methods they could use to tie the accounts together, even if you were to use one account and two passwords.
GOG did it, hundreds of other sites do it, it's easy, but I guess it's a dumb idea then. Better off blaming hackers for laziness. |
Welp, seems that your prayers have been answered, you will be able to connect your forum and Steam account now.

The other reason I don't think this is a good idea, is because it opens the door for things like EA's "get banned on the forums and we'll ban you from Battlefield 3" shenanigans.
I would never want my Steam forum account associated with my actual Steam account. Never ever ever. It offers no advantage, and poses additional possible risk. Seriously, it takes two minutes to make a forum account, if you need one. Use the same username and password, if you don't want to remember a new one and don't mind the risk, and you'll get the same thing you're asking for. Not that damned hard.

Pretty sure you don't NEED a forum account to do "the most basic of tasks" on Steam, which is basically just to run games.
Quote: | whereas on sites like GOG, who clearly have a good design sense in regards to UI/UX, have one. But that's wrong? Okay. |
Uh, I don't recall saying that GOG did anything wrong?
Quote: | Is that related to hackers too? Wouldn't want them to get your support answers or anything. |
You realize that the same support system is used to dispute ownership of the account, right? If a hacker got my hypothetical uni-Steam account, including Support, what system could I use to dispute it? Direct e-mail? Ha! As if.

I'm not assuming anyone is like EA, or making assumptions. I'm just saying, I'd rather prevent it entirely, personally.

Will probably link the two, but I honestly see no real advantage to it either. I mean, some may see the fact that they're not linked as a negative, but there's no huge positive to it either (excepting, of course, if you're wanting to use the trade forums, obviously). In that sense, I can see why they're doing it - clamp down on the scammers and fakers. But for those of us who don't trade on the fourms? Meh.
