It has a free tier for a year, which is 5GB. Additional gigabyte is 0.125cents. (or 0.093cents if you want storage with less backups).

Dropbox currently gives you about 5GB for free. 2Gb is free as standard, 3GB for doing the beta thing here: http://www.nfohump.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=74799 And a few hundred MB for using a referral link.

Edit: You can also get up to an extra 16GB by getting people to sign up. 256MB per person that signs up.

Depends on what you want to do and how etc.

If you want to store and sync photos? I'd say, go for Picasa @ Google. It is completely free, no limit AFAIK and it is linked with everything nowadays. I upload a picture to Picasa and I can use it as a facebook background using my Android phone. Easy as pie. Same goes for sharing small files through Google Docs.

You want it bigger? I'd say go for Dropbox. Amazingly easy, auto syncing (which can be annoying if you are sharing big files and changing them regularly) and some GB. I have 2-3GB now, but i only use it for my important files, scripts, code i wrote etc.

I also have an account @ One.com. I used to have a couple of websites there and recently they gave me a free cloud service. Just check it out at their website and click on 'cloud service'. For example, the cheapest website is 1.25/month and has 5GB storage/unlimited traffic. When you get that account, you get a 5GB storage similar to dropbox, autosync features etc.You could get bigger to 30GB for 2.60/month. But keep in mind that you get the website as well. Far superior than a paying Dropbox account IMHO. I am still using me free dropbox because i am too lazy to change everything. But might do so if my folder that is synced everyday becomes too big.

I'm guessing he needs it as a CDN for his website. And Dropbox is not made for that (does not max my connection).

Nah,i use cloudflare for my websites (it sucks btw),just need to backup some files, documents, firefox sync key,and some iso's to have acces at friends, and everywhere.

Thats why asked for a large file size limit,i mean i could put packed downloads, but downloading...then unpacking is a hassle.

Also im assuming that each provider has better download speeds etc ?

Other promo codes that you can use "after" the registration:

I-KNOW-CAROLA : 1 GB
I-KNOW-FABIUS : 1 GB
I-KNOW-LUZIUS : 1 GB
I-KNOW-THOMAS : 1 GB
I-KNOW-JONAS : 1 GB
I-KNOW-MARCEL : 1 GB
I-KNOW-MARIUS : 1 GB
I-KNOW-DARIO : 1 GB
CONNECT-WITH-SUPPORT : 1 GB
SKYFISH-IS-COOL : 1 GB

I'm not sure if all of them are still working, just try Wink

Skydrive is very easy to use, helps me with sharing small files. I like the Hotmail integration. Dropbox is also very nice for sharing a folder with a group, but the constant syncing can get tiresome.
I wouldn't pay for cloud sharing since there are enough free alternatives available.

Just bought a Google Drive 100GB sub for 20€/year.

Amazon Drive with unlimited space for 70€/year was very tempting too. But with my crappy asymmetrical internets (100/6) it would take ages to upload stuff.
Now i just upload the most important stuff encrypted.

Also started doing regular backups with Veeam Endpoint on an external 3TB drive now.

Poker Face

There are also things to consider like upload/download speed. (Onedrive)
And i don't want to use some shitty provider that could disappear anytime. (Firedrop/Mega)

20€ a year is really nothing for having storage at Google.
Well, if you are jobless and must save that is another story.

used dropbox, switched to skydrive aka onedrive later. no problems, speeds are fine

Or get a NAS, if you don't fully trust DropBox or Google (after all, they become owner of your files) or storage is what you need. Synology offers pretty much the same features, like synching photos directly after taking them and such. Obviously, the initial price is higher.

I'm using both Synologys cloud storage, dropbox, googledrive and onedrive. The last two I need to use professionaly. I prefer dropbox for sharing with other people and googledrive for cooperative document editing. Onedrive somehow doesnt really work well with me.

The Synology cloud and the file access has become my primary utility for personal stuff, with ample possibilities for backup. But you need reliable and fast upload speeds for it to work well. I have 200/100, which is enough to stream my movies to my devices over internet and certainly enough for cloud syncing. For Bob, with only 6mbits upload, it wouldnt work quite so well, sadly.

"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

Yeah, streaming movies with Synology doesn't work too well on my internet speeds (music works great though; I listen to music on my car's radio, streamed from my home).
CloudStation works very good, though, I'm using it both professionally as private. It's very easy to add users and share data.

Hello, I am using Google Drive and Dropbox both because I am using two PC's. So it is easy to use and I get more storage space.

Your "own" vServer?

I use this for owncloud and a teamspeak server:
https://noez.de/vserver

+cheap (200 GB ~20 €/ year)
+you can do what you want/need with it
-support
-speed (20-100 Mbit)
-no backups, only local snapshots
