Hi guys,

Since I have no idea about that status of Wii piracy, I figured I'd ask here. My friend got a Wii that is cracked, and she says it is supposed to load games from a USB stick? How does that work?
Also how does she need to download games? ISOs and then convert to USB somehow?

Thanks in advance,
Leo

Although you could load from USB stick I would recommend getting a USB HDD. You download the games in .iso or .wbfs and throw them on the HDD. Wii Backup Menager is a nice app that will let you not only transfer files to the HDD but also convert them to the proper format if necessary. To run those games you use one of many USB loaders out there, like USB Loader GX or my favorite Configurable USB Loader. If you are clueless on how to get those loaders on your Wii (like i was the first time around) you can use a great app called ModMii which pretty much walks you through it all. Everything from hacking a new Wii to installing additional apps.

I assume she already has a loader on her Wii. Because she got it from someone who already did warez. So if a loader is there, and she puts ISOs on a HDD, she can just play?

I haven't looked into new developments for the wii lately but from what I know you need a partition formatted to WBFS so that the wii can read it.
I use WBFS manager which will format you a HDD to the proper file system and then allows you to unpack isos onto it in a format the wii will play

you can play wii games from fat32 and ntfs formatted drives. and these aren't even new developments, fat32 was possible for at least 2-3 years and ntfs not so recent either

just update all wii CIOS to latest versions (d2x v8 highly recommended) with ModMii, then use wii backup manager to transfer games to hdd or usb stick or what have you.

What particular benefits do we get from updating the CIOS files?

I think just increased stability (USB loading can crash sometimes) and increased compatibility with certain games. Last game I remember giving people a problem was the "new" side scrolling Mario, but even that was awhile ago.

biggest motivation to update: IOS RELOADING!!

previously non-working IOS reloading games (like metroid trilogy) now perfectly work

yup, also improved stealth and whatnot. all "problem" titles of the past now work perfectly. so that's a pretty big motivation imo Razz

and damn you for mentioning metroid trilogy. i get goosebumps just thinking of it and wanna play it again.
