Get the below recipes, they should all be pretty standard, and then use the below tips.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Insalata_Caprese

Get some San Marzano tomatoes, lots of nice fresh basil, buffalo mozzarella cheese, drizzle with a good olive olie (no better than that), a little bit balsamico and a pinch salt and pepper (get a grinder).

Arrange it nice for points Smile

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carbonara

This can´t go wrong, just keep sterring the eggs, so you don´t get scrambled eggs.
Make sure your water is boiling before putting the the pasta in (I always use thick spaghetti) add some tablespoons salt, give the pasta a minut under what it says on the bag. (you want some bite in it). On medium heat give your bacon some time, don´t rush bacon.

Get good parmasan cheese and keep alittle extra on the table to topple with. Make the caprese while waiting for water to boil and bacon to crisp. Caprese takes 5 min and Carbonara 15 min (but should be eaten as soon as its ready - heat your plates under warm water, dry them and then serve, keep the pepper grinder ready - pepper really makes this dish for me.

Dessert should just be strawberrys covered in chocolate (Carbonara is filling).

These you can prepare before starting the food.

Have a nice V-day Wink

Haha you and your continent. White flour pasta and double cream is pretty rich.
But im with ya and instead of salt, I would have used a bit of bacon, just a little parmesan on top and a good dash of pepper.

So you would have the sweetness from the cream, the sour from the white wine, the salt from the bacon and the umami from the parmasan. Maybe even some rocket salad for the bitter taste. And voila...

Personally I would add some garlic and chili as well.

Nice. Very Happy

Shouldn't look at this thread when I'm hungry, but some good recipes so. Sad

I tend to cook meaty things, both in how large they are, and the fact that they're all meat. Christmas dinner main was my specialty - large joint of boneless gammon ham, roasted in the oven. Sealed inside tin foil until nearly done, then open it up, glaze with some really expensive honey (organic Chilean clear honey ftw), pour demerara sugar over that, and leave open for the final 30 minutes. Got another joint in the freezer, so will take photos of that one next time I make it (which'll be in a month or two, I expect - it works really well cold).

indeed the pic has been yummified... however there is a serious lack of meatage in there...i shall remedy that by adding of the smoked ham chunks...
