Bingo. I for one applaud them for maintaining a focused direction on SP, and in turn bringing us the game at a bargain price.
So many developers now'a'days are wasting resources on modes that shouldn't be in the game to begin with (BF3 with SP campaign for example). It's refreshing to see someone who actually has their priorities straight.
I can never be free, because the shackles I wear can't be touched or be seen.

The demo chrashes for me as soon as I start it up. :/
For those who played it. Is it similar to the Fall from Heaven Civ4 mod?
That's imho the best civ-like game available, even better than base civ.

I was able to break turn limit of demo using Cheat Engine.
After filtering for several turns only 2byte values that match current turn, 6 addresses remained. The 6th one needs to be changed, and lowered before turn timer reaches 50.
Save/load is still an issue, but I doubt it is worth the effort, since full game will be in the week.

Anyway, I was blown away with the demo. Can't wait for whole game.
P.S.
Cheat Engine helped me to play a few turns more after limit, and have time to destroy King Rat. After that, I decided to end the play-through, since it was a bit late (currently it's 2AM in my time zone).

Well that don´t matter when you can put down as many cities as you want - thats crazy amounts of food and gold. There is a reason why all CIV games have put an limit on the "infinite city sprawl" strategy. But that can hopefully be modded in this game.

My demo empire after 50 turns.
Spoiler: | |
Just recently destroyed Rat King. It's turn 50, but turn timers says 20, due to cheat engine.
Plan to finish the game with conquest.
Demo is surprisingly stable, if alt-tabed out (usually I do with from diplomacy screen, since it's 2D).
P.S.
Yes, I did fill all places with cities. All exempt one actually had resources worth settling.
It took me a while to tame western south region, full of monsters. Also, only size 5 cities can build settlers, so most of the cities I build originated from capitol.
P.P.S.
Interestingly enough, when going through building lists of all races, I notices that only undead have flying units. Also, there is no cavalry, exempt comic relief order of stubborn knights (donkey cavalry).
Are all units present in demo, or is it trimmed down?

At 60th turn, after finishing temple on only holy ground on demo map, I got message that I won the game (with narrator voice and placeholder icon in notifications). Still, game continued. Maybe demo wasn't really designed with this victory condition in mind.

There is cool little victory video, with all great mages shackled.

I've also tried to see how demo runs with Intel HD Graphics 3000 (Core i3-2330M) on my laptop. Usually, I use GT 540M, but was curious what integrated solution can do.
The most optimum settings seem to be to turn down landscape detail to Medium and set shadows Off (biggest performance boost). That gives up to 30fps in 1366x768 (less if too much is going on). With same settings gt 540m renders 60fps.

Some small tricks I noticed while playing.
While it is not possible to build roads in this game, it is implied that tiles with buildings have roads. So going through tile with building will always take 0.5 movement points, despite underlying terrain. So make sure to take this into account when placing buildings on tiles.
There is upgrade system in the game. If for example you have warriors, and make possible in one of the cities to train veterans (which is warrior upgrade unit), you will be able to upgrade all your warriors to veterans, for sum of gold. It's same amount of money as to train new unit, but this way it's instant, and you get to keep all experience.
Getting favor with one god, will also increase favor with other nearby gods, but will decrease for those opposite of them. Favor unlocks possibility to research divine spells. For example, favor of Krypta (god of dead/necromancy), enables spells that summon undead, buff undead army, etc...
When setting nearby holy ground, choose settler race carefully. Not all races can build temples for all gods.

I'll double check that but as far as I remember, no, you can't. Last time I tried doing it I accidentally moved an unit to another hex (didn't played the demo, I was holding out until I got my paradox press acc)

Ya have a look through the files, does it seem easy to mod? Other Paradox games are a breeze to mod - like I want to make so instead of 3 tiles from each city, I want it to be 5 tiles from each city to minimize city spamming. And I would also like to raise costs of units, again to have fewer, but more important units. Thanks in advance.

btw, should I look for anything specific? Like certain file extensions or anything like that?

Is there any mechanic to counter city spam? Doesn't seem like there would be any drawbacks whatsoever to such a basic and game-breaking tactic.

Nope thats what im wailing about in earlier posts. In the demo my capitol makes one unit, then for the next 12-14 turns it just makes settlers (does not hinder growth etc).
Its no problem killing both AIs in the demo, by just spamming cities and then units.

If that's the case, has anyone had a chance to look at the packaged files or such for a sign of config and modability?
Making settlers should have some effect on the city if the tactic is overwhelmingly great. (Can not comment on this myself as I have no personal goal of using the tactic myself)

On plus side, capitol is the only city that can make any settlers for a long time, since population of 5 is prerequisite for making settlers. So further the away the place, more time it takes.
Another thing that delays expansion is that usually you need to clear area of monsters to be able to place cities. Sometimes it's easy, sometimes it can take a lot of time (like that area southwest in demo with portal and stuff).
Anyway, while it does take some time, it still seems like best strategy overall, as long as monster areas are not too strong. For example in demo, I think it's more efficient to not battle in southwest area, but to finish off rat king or conquer two undead cities at the south.
