I'm currently at the end of the second act and it's much better now. I get the feeling that the people who claim that it develops into a 8/10 game at the end are right. |
Well that's nice to hear, I'll keep playing then

Story seems decent, gameplay a bit of meh. Nothing to write home, that's for sure. But after the patch, this became playable and it will give you a few hours of fun.

I've set the normal FOV on 60 and the Aiming one on 50, should be a good compromise
@Pika: yeah, that's actually a nice feature, which comes useful when playing at the highest level of difficulty

What I'm enjoying most is the damage system. Yeah it gets repetative... Legs, head... Legs, head... But fucking hell is it satisfying like few other games, seeing the chunks of metal go flying.... THIS is one seriously cathartic game.

pretty cool gif. love making the robots fight each other like that (especially unleashing one of those big chaingun fuckers right in the middle of their own ranks)
anyway, finished it. i hope they do a sequel, because id love to play another one... and i definately will replay this game at some point. it was fun.
my major complaint however, is that while i liked the bulk of it, i didnt like how the ending was handled... just the entire chunk from the "big revelation"... kinda made me feel uneasy how it all played out. NOT because it was proposing some heavy philosophical or moral issues or anything, but i just didnt like how the characters handled everything. it all felt a bit too smooth and forced, if that makes sense... everything just felt like it was handled a bit unnaturally (which i guess you have to laugh at, given the nature of the story concept. ha. ha.), if you know what i mean.
but overall, good game, like i said, ill definately play it again eventually. the core combat was fun, the boss battles were great (though the last one was surprisingly easy - no false modesty or anything... i had more trouble during plain enemy battles at the start of the game, than i did at the final boss fight... but i guess it was more of a 'heres the ending' sequence, than a boss 'challenge'.
loved the characters, and the story (apart from the handling at the end) was interesting... definately want more.
i just hope sega wasnt put-off by the negative response from pc gamers because of the shitty effort by the team they hired to port the game.

I just beat it as well, and I liked it a lot. Not sure why it's been getting mediocre scores.

true, and also because it's from Japanese developer. I notice growing bias from western reviewers against Japanese games, even if that game is good.

spoiler... maybe...
banged faye, the french robot ran off (figures, amiright? ), and the black guy died (HA!!) scene after the credits was dan and faye together against a rust crew. seems like a pretty good ending, all things considered. woulda been nice if the french robot had stuck around. he was kinda cool i guess.

One of the better ones then I guess, must have had a good rating (reputation? trust?) with the majority of the crew.

the only one i didnt have very high trust with, was charlie. which is a pity because i really liked the dude... its just that... you know... if im going to have two useless squad mates that always tag along with me, naturally its gonna be the ones with tits. i just never used the brit or the black dudes. managed to get bos trust up to very high by the end, and maxed out fayes and rachaels, and that jap terrorist dude.
JUST out of curiosity, did anyone get a different post-credits scene than i did? or does the game end the same for everyone?

The best ending requires very high trust with all your squadies. And there are a few points in the game where yuu can farm both trust and creds.
You can find more on gamefaqs. Including who to bring and when. Make multiple kills, headshots, smashes and do try and take out the transports that drop the bots. The transports will net you 4200 creds and some nice trust if you take them out. You need to get the engines quick and you get some nice money and trust. Helps a lot if you want to buy all the nanomachines and upgrades.
Spoiler: | Cain
----
If you have VERY HIGH trust with all characters Cain will return in 6-2, he'll
then take the blow to save Faye, unlike human characters though Cain can
survive it, this means he'll be present to fight alongside you in the last two
battles of the game.
If your trust levels are not high enough he simply won't show up at the end,
the player is left to presume he didn't escape Amada.
Big Bo
------
If you have VERY HIGH trust with Bo by 6-2 then in the cutscene before the
penultimate battle where he has a gun to Dan's head he'll lower it and the
*Comrades in Arms* trophy will unlock. What happens next is dependant on
whether you fulfilled the requirement for Cain to come back, see below
sub-section.
If you have a HIGH or lower trust level with Bo he won't lower his gun and he
and Dan will fight before Bo jumps in one of the Cuirass-1s, you then have to
fight him, after the final boss Bo makes up with Dan before he dies.
Cain and Bo
-----------
These are the combinations of the above and how they affect each other:
You didn't fulfil the requirement for Cain to come back or Bo to be loyal:
Cain won't show up, you'll have to fight Bo, Rachael will die protecting Faye.
You fulfilled the requirement for Cain to come back but not for Bo to be loyal:
Cain will come back and save Faye, you'll have to fight Bo.
You didn't fulfil the requirement for Cain to come back but did for Bo to be
loyal:
Cain won't show up, Bo will die protecting Faye.
You fulfilled the requirement for Cain to come back and Bo to be loyal:
Cain will come back and save Faye, the whole Rust Crew (Bo, Cain, Charlie,
Faye and Rachael) will fight alongside you in the final battles.
No matter how you treat Shindo and Kurosawa Shindo their outcomes will always
be the same. |
Spoiler: | Easy Method to View All Endings Yourself
----------------------------------------
It's possible to view all the variations on the ending with just a single
playthrough, this requires getting VERY HIGH trust with the whole team. If
you're having trouble maxing trust throughout the game even with the farming
locations in the walkthrough here's an easy breakdown of who to take and when
(mix and match whoever you like, this is just a basic guideline to give an
idea):
1-1 to 2-2
Take Charlie and Faye (don't take Bo and Faye together, what gains Bo's trust
will sometimes lose Faye's).
2-3
Acquire the Trust nanomachine and keep it equipped for as long as you need to
throughout the game (see stage walkthrough for more info).
2-4
Take Charlie and Faye again. Farm at the elevator spot before the room with the
jet skis (see stage walkthrough for more info).
2-5
Take Charlie and Faye as later in the stage you'll be forced to switch to the
two you didn't take, Bo and Rachael. Farm at the ramp where the Simians keep
spawning when you're in the elevator room (see stage walkthrough for more
info).
3-2
Take Cain and whoever you have the least trust with. Farm in the beginning room
of the stage using the mounted machine gun on top of the APC (see stage
walkthrough for more info).
3-3 to 5-2
Take whoever you have the least trust with, bear in mind Cain and Faye will
leave at 5-2.
5-3
You'll easily get Shindo and Kurosawa's trust to VERY HIGH in 5-3, just hang
back before the doors they both open and in the last room to farm (see stage
walkthrough for more info).
5-4 to 6-1
You have no choice in your team in these stages, Bo, Charlie and Rachael will
be present in case you're still somehow below VERY HIGH with them.
See the walkthrough for dialog answers to all the non-missable dialog choices.
Depending on how much you farm it's very easy to max everyone's trust, let
alone get it to VERY HIGH, so don't worry about it too much.
Once at 6-2 with VERY HIGH trust for everyone you should get the most positive
ending, after you've beaten the game load up your 6-2 save, pause the game and
choose 'load chapter' to 6-2, save the game in a new slot as prompted, you'll
be doing this for each of the variations of the ending you want to view. From
here use friendly fire to take Charlie or Rachael down to HIGH or lower trust
if you want an ending without Cain and friendly fire Bo down a level of trust
to get an ending where he's disloyal, mix and match those variables to get the
desired endings (see above sub-sections for more info). |

I think that Binary Domain would make a decent anime movie or even series.
Loving the game. It does have quite a few cliches, but the characters are likeable, story is solid and the atmosphere is great. Would have really loved all the voiceovers in japanese. When they use the japanese actors (there are quite a few areas in the game where the characters you encounter are talking in japanese), the game really shines. Though the english translation is pisspoor(yeah, too many animes kinda of teach you the right translation for certain expressions).

The story and atmosphere is great, people were certainly right about that and I also do think it would have made a decent anime.

Sega higherups are real idiots. I mean, Binary Domain could have sold quite well on PC if they would have made a decent port.
But again, Sega doesn't know how to handle PC. Look at how they've handled Alpha Protocol or even the Virtua Tennis series.
And i still can't believe that Sega never considered on bringing Valkyria Chronicles on PC (another great game series treated poorly by Sega's idiots).

It bugged me a bit, but finally I've remembered why the story seemed so familiar. Mainly because it's very similar to the one in the Vexille movie.

Something to see if you liked B.D.
