Something to add:
Unlike Civ, neither city production nor growth is dynamic (meaning: based on terrain and buildings city has), so there is actually no choice between vertical growth (big cities) vs wide growth (lots of cities) in this game.
The real question is how to you want to get new cities. By conquering neutrals and other mages, or by clearing out monsters, so you can settle new cities. Both options require some military might.
Anyway, there is no choice between improving the city and building new one, but choice between building the settlers or building the units, With both choices leading to getting more cities.

For me the problem is also that its "one unit per hex" and with crazy amounts of cities - you will get crazy amount of troops also. Even in the demo I would have 20-30 troops moving around each turn. I would like it to be a tactical choice - because right now im pretty sure either you build a crazy amounts of cities or else the AI will (and knowning I will play this on hardest level, it will be pandemonia).
I just read the official forum and they speak about it there as well, and I can see a user named "PawelS" and I remember him from Age of Wonders mods, so he will make it right.

On the plus side, due to "one unit per hex" rule, game will more favor stronger units then mass of them (due to choke points). And as far I can see, better units are significantly more expensive then weaker troops (things like 300-700 gold).
So yes, you will need lots of cities for good economy (needed to support and buy units), but thankfully you will not need huge amount of troops, but smaller number of elite troops to win the war.

Ya you may be right, that the full game will play out like this. It just brings nightmares of the bad points of CIV5 is not learned. But bring on tuesday!

I actually like the "one unit per hex" rule. It adds more tactical depth to the game. What I don't like is city spamming, and it's a huge letdown for me that the game encourages it.

I like that rule alot better when units actual have variable hitpoints - all units having 10hp in CIV5 and every unit getting hit by atleast one point of damage sucks. So I was very happy to see some of the later troops in this game with 60+ hit points. Early release come on!

Would have been perfect with a midnight the 8th release but steam seems persistent on 1 day and 4 hours left.

Thought there would be some more activity in this thread now since the game was released but after checking it a bit more it would seem it's only been released via Gamersgate so far, of the sites I've checked at least.
(Thought it was tied to Steam thus being out everywhere but when I checked it still wasn't listed as released there.)

Haven't found a Warlock.Master.of.the.Arcane.Cracked.Fullrepack-ALI213 that isn't just the demo mislabled so far.
Is that the confirmed full version?
