0.9.9 will be deployed on approximately May 8, NZ time.
I'm not going to attempt to list all the features here (I'll update with a lot more info next week), but a few specific things people have been waiting for are:
- The big monster update. All monsters have had their skills and behaviour changed. The new AI system creates some absolutely brutal fights. I die every time I test the game now, often in scary ways.
- New skills, supports and at least one new quest and monster type.
- A rebalance of all weapon and damage values in the game so that the progression is a bit flatter. This fixes many problems in the game balance. No longer will your level 12 rare item be outdated by a level 17 normal item.
- The option to put the minimap in the corner of the screen rather than as an overlay.
- Meaningful act boss drops now that they're harder to abusively farm.
- At least two things I can't talk about yet but might be of interest to some users.
0.9.9 is not the last patch before Open Beta. 0.9.10 is next

once diablo3 is out i think it will be quite dead in this game for now.. it feels hard enough to finding party as it is... but its a good game im kinda bored with it now,, i want the new act or something.
Added the ability to zoom the view in using the mouse wheel. Sometimes the camera will go through a wall when zoomed in quite far. We don't need bug reports of this, thanks.

Version 0.9.9d
Revamped the user interface for levelling gems up. Now, when they're close to the end of a level, they will appear on the right side of the play area, indicating their progress. Once they can be levelled up to the next level, a button will appear. If you want to leave the gem at its current level, you can dismiss this permanently by right clicking on the button. Equipped gems can still be levelled up from the inventory screen.
The page up/down keys now control the zoom level as well. These can be rebound. You can now disable mousewheel zoom in the UI options.
Double Strike has been rebalanced so that the starting level is now level 1 and it is available as the Shadow's initial gem received in the Twilight Strand. It is now pure dexterity.
Increased the monster density in the Twilight Strand.
Rejuvenation totems now do not affect themselves.
Exploding Spawn can now no longer be magic/rare.
Fixed some problems with the chat box. It now replaces the channel symbol if you start to type a /command.
Fixed a bug where monsters using Flicker Strike would cause the camera to act wrong if zoomed in.
Fixed a bug where Righteous Fire's spell damage increase didn't work.
Fixed a recently introduced bug where you'd get the waypoint for an area by merely entering it.
Fixed a bug where Oozeback Bloom would crash the instance when he dies.
Neutered an experimental skill gem that accidentally made its way into 0.9.9. Oops.
Isn't it open beta weekend this weekend? I was under the impression that you didn't need a key to participate during the weekend? I've registered and downloaded the client already. Hopefully I'll be able to play it until monday without any keys?
Don't find the game as entertaining as D3 beta was for me. Tried several characters and the combat gets boring quite fast...I guess it's something to play until D3. Undeniably there are some interesting design choices in there though.
playing a bit,
i have a question
i'm a fan of summoners.
so i got a witch.
i got a ... crystal with summon zombie, but i like the fireball to,
any way to have both ?
because atm, i need to switch gem in my wand to have summon and firebal..
Those are both blue gems, right? Just get yourself another item with a blue socket. You don't need to put it on your weapon. It works on any item. Also, they level up even if you don't use them, so feel free to fill the items with gems even if you don't use them. You might trade them later on if you want or do something else with them.
