Also, as a side note I would like to express my great joy because of success of this company. Despite the fact that I really hate The Witcher 2 for being significantly worse than its predecessor IMO, I still have to admit they're making real quality games, not some derped down POS and yet they've managed to find customers and succeed (PC master race FTW!). Great job! And lots of faith in humanity restored!

A CDProject RED Mass Effect like game? FUCKING YES I'd want that... Well, whatever they decide to make, I'm sure it'll be great.

Haha yeah, basically this. My preference would go to the cyberpunk but these guys can really do whatever they want Razz.

I'm sure they'd manage to make a great game even if they used the Barbie Universe theme Laughing

Wasn't CD Projekt once involved in some FPS called "THEY" earlier?
(Studio that was actually developing it bankrupted though, perhaps not too different to what happened to the "White Wolf" Witcher 1 X360 version.)

Yup, afaik it was permanently put on hold right before the release of TW2 (not sure if it will ever be continued though, probably not)

Won't prevent it from standing head and shoulders above of most games out there, just like The Witcher 2 does.

Yea but at the same time it was worse than TW1. If the trend continues they will end up making shit games before long. It's a valid concern.

I liked TW 1 more. Yes, the combat was clunky, it had bad VO and it felt rough around the edges, but there was something about the game in general that made it stand out.

I love the second game too, but I haven't even finished it a second time.

Same here.

But I'd love another RPG which takes place in a real world setting like Alpha Protocol. We barely have any like those around!

1 and 2 are still amazing.

Same for me.

But TW2 is still a kickass game.

I agree about TW1 being superior to its sequel . Though I guess we have to wait and see what they have in mind, we don't even know whether the next Witcher will be multi-platform from the start or not (probably..yes). I doubt they'll give the finger to its main audience (us) like other companies have done, though. Oh well, still too early make assumptions..let's hope for the happy ending Razz

Could you perhaps recollect those notable features and describe them?

Same goes for everyone who say that the first game was way better than this one. I had directly started the 2nd game and I loved it. This game is truly my best RPG till date. But I would still like to know from people who played the first game, what is it that really makes The Witcher a far better game than it's sequel?

The, er, "worldspace" in each chapter is bigger and MUCH more detailed on the first game, even greater reward in exploration and in chatting up with every NPC you see, better potion system (which I only grasped completely on the 3rd chapter hurrdurr Sad) are it for me.

Main complaint about TW2 for me is too much focus on cinematics, too little gameplay. You stumble from one cutscene into another, there are several cases where you take control of another character and all you can do is move/talk/press LMB, QTEs or cutscenes with limited control (dragon escape in prologue) etc. The story is great and well-written (especially in the game's native language) but at times it felt like a visual novel rather than the roleplaying game it's supposed to be.

Only the mini stories, the rest of them are still in process of being translated. I found some fan translations though, if anyone is interested

Selling the rights to use the world and characters he created to CDP was probably the best deal Sapkowski ever made Smile The Witcher suddenly became immensly popular in some circles. Internationally, I mean. I've known the character for over 15 years, and I don't think I ever saw as many "Geralts" and "Rivias" on international boards, as I see nowadays. A good thing, that. This writer's work deserves to be known.

As for the games themselves - personally I love both of them. Both have a dark, gritty world, and characters that feel real and don't seem like they were cut out of some strange soap opera. The first one is a lot larger (loved that) and has a more personal story (with some good turns and a truly epic ending). The second one, on the other hand, excells in terms of presentation, non-linearity and gameplay (combat, quest structure, in some cases) but the story might not fit everyone's tastes - there's a lot of politics, intrigues and stuff like that - I mean, yes, it was present in the first game, but it was just a hint of its importance in Witcher 2.

If I absolutely had to choose, I would probably say I prefer the second one - mainly because the experience feels just more refined, with less bumps detracting from the game and taking away the incredibile immersion. For Witcher 3 give me W1's amount of content with W2's quality of it and slightly enhanced W2 gameplay - and I'll be a very happy man, with another collector's edition on my shelf.

I find TW1, whilst mechanically clunky in a lot of respects, superior to TW2. The second game became too much of a Bioware cinematic consolised action game clone.

Disagreed.

About what? That it was a cinematics-ridden action game or that this fact was detrimental to its overall quality?

This shit again? After one year and half we fuck over the game quality and that, and we get the EE also.

For me both of games were good, I enjoyed W1 same as I did with W2, both of them finished multiple times, yea W2 have cinematic events and QTE so what, most of them were implemented good not just spam of them.

Choose one of them? I can't.
